We are seeking a full-time Senior Antenna Engineer in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for providing technical solutions, project planning, and design execution/testing for complex Aviation antennas for Garmin.
Essential Functions
Responsible for hands on antenna design/development efforts for externally mounted aviation antennas
Responsible for hands on antenna design/development efforts for product integrated antennas in Garmin Avionics
Capable of designing naturally resonant (or with matching network) multiband antennas
Analyzes test data and reports to determine if the proposed antenna design meets functional and performance specifications
Partners with Mechanical Engineers to provide feedback of antenna design needs in mechanical assembly
Collaborates with other engineers to realize complete antenna design that may include active transmitters and/or receivers
Collaborates and adds value through participation in design reviews, providing comments on antenna design aspects and other engineering areas
Evaluates new antenna manufacturing technologies as they apply to existing designs and potential new designs
Participates in project leadership and/or program planning including providing technical input to product development plans and concept documents
Makes substantial contributions toward determination of project goal/objective feasibility
Mentors and provides guidance to less experienced Antenna Engineers
Contributes to advanced technical research on new antenna ideas and enhance Garmin's Intellectual Property
Directs/coordinates manufacture of prototypes and participates in recruiting activities as assigned
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering AND a minimum of 5 years of industry experience in RF/antenna design OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering with focus on RF/antennas and electromagnetics AND a minimum of 3 years of industry experience in RF/antenna design OR Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering with focus on RF/antennas and electromagnetics AND 1 year of industry experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
Demonstrated ability with application of design standards and procedures to develop moderately complex antenna designs including simulations, prototyping and evaluation
Desired Qualifications
Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
Extensive circuit design experience for consumer or aviation products
Experience with HFSS and simulation driven design workflows
RF design experience such as Filters, LNAs, Receivers, etc.
Experience with Keysight Pathwave (ADS) or AWR Microwave Office
Previous design experience with patch antennas, quad-helix antennas, and other large form factor antennas
