Job Description
The Senior Payroll Specialist is responsible for the accurate preparation, documentation, and distribution of payroll via the payroll system. In this role, you will collaborate with HR and finance staff to ensure integrity of payroll data and accuracy. The Senior Payroll Specialist must be capable of answering more complex questions and mentoring the payroll administrators.
Candidate can be located anywhere in the United States.
Responsible for the day-to-day payroll processes to ensure timely, compliant, and accurate payroll.
Calculate and verify pay calculations, benefit deductions, tax computations, garnishment, and child support deductions.
Manage employee payroll data for new hires and terminations.
Examines payroll records to ensure proper recording of tax transactions and compliance with applicable laws.
Reviews the computation of pay to ensure are in line with internal standards, policies and procedures.
Issues, tracks, and reconciles On-Demand payments and reversals where required and as approved.
Reconcile 401k to payroll.
Prepare and process journal entries related to payroll transactions.
Respond to internal inquiries regarding payroll and time and attendance issues, as well as correspond with external parties, such as garnishment and tax agencies.
Assist payroll manager with the registration of new state, local, and unemployment withholding taxes as necessary.
Investigates and resolves tax notices, penalties, and questionnaire requests.
Work with manager and payroll providers to ensure proper filing of monthly, quarterly, annual payroll tax reporting including but not limited to issuance of W-2s.
Performs testing of payroll related system enhancements, improvements, and migrations.
Creates reports using ADP Reporting system as requested by internal and external parties (Pension, 401k, Workers' Comp, audits, etc.).
Assist with ad hoc projects, audits, and other tasks as assigned.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payroll regulations and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal payroll laws.
Perform back up responsibilities for the payroll manager and administrators.
Qualifications
Education and Experience Required:
Associate degree or equivalent
4-7 years of Payroll related experience
Preferred:
Experience executing payroll in ADP
Experience with UKG
Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities
Language Skills: English - Advanced level proficiency
Mathematical Skills: Intermediate level proficiency for performing pay calculations and preparing budgets.
Reasoning Skills/Abilities: Advanced level
High integrity and ethics.
Ability to maintain high degree of professionalism, confidentiality, and discretion.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Working knowledge of Federal and State payroll laws and requirements in US.
Ability to collect, analyze data, and articulate sound and reliable conclusions.
Proven ability to provide exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.
Proficient using automated payroll processing software and time and attendance systems.
Ability to prioritize and execute tasks.
Ability to work independently.
Computer Skills/Systems
MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) - Intermediate user level proficiency
ADP - Intermediate user level proficiency
UKG - Advanced user level proficiency
Licenses/ Certifications
Fundamentals of Payroll Certified (FPC) required, CPP preferred.
