Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Student Success Advisor/Assistant Director supports new and returning students needing academic support by developing and implementing a variety of data-informed academic support plans, advising interventions, and strategies that include individualized and small group learning activities and monitoring academic progress. This is a direct-service and administrative role.

Core Responsibilities:1. Develop, coordinate and implement proactive intervention strategies designed to identify, assess and provide advising and academic supports for new and returning students who may need specifically targeted and structured academic assistance.2. Coordinate and facilitate regularly scheduled, proactive learning labs for first-year students in collaboration with First Year Experience (FYE) programs and faculty. These labs are designed to help students integrate and apply effective study skills, learning strategies, active reading/note-taking, time management and organization skills to their specific courses during the first semester.3. Work with students to create and apply a personalized learning approach and proactive plan of advising and academic support, relevant to students’ individual needs, in areas of connecting with faculty, seeking academic support, academic advising, career counseling, personal counseling, etc.4. Work with new and returning students to help them assess their learning needs, set short-term goals to address immediate needs, discuss long-term goals for ongoing academic development and assist them in reaching those goals.5. Be responsive to the needs of all students as they develop their skills and progress through their studies by closely tracking their progress and adapting responsive strategies to address their changing needs.6. Communicate with faculty, advisors and others as needed regarding student progress.7. Work in partnership with faculty, advisors and other staff to facilitate the academic success of all students.8. Support student engagement, persistence and success by performing other related duties and projects as assigned (e.g. support Starfish Early Alert protocols, train and supervise peer coaches/tutors, provide case-management support for students on Academic Probation).

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Education or related field.
  • 2-4 years experience advising and teaching in higher education/learning support services.
  • Experience working with students who are academically vulnerable.
  • Excellent leadership, organization, communication and technology skills.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5-7 years experience providing direct services to students in a higher education setting

When determining and establishing hiring rates or recruitment ranges for a position, the College considers a number of factors including the budget for the position, the range of the grade, the external market for the position or similar positions, level and scope of responsibilities, required education, skills and relevant experience as well as internal equity. All salary offers must have the prior approval of the Office of Human Resources.

The anticipated hiring or recruitment range for this position is $60,000 – $65,000.
