Hays is supporting a leading Engineering & Construction firm, looking to add Senior & Lead Engineering talent to their Renewables & Power divisions.
Role Overview:As a Senior/Lead Substation Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the design, development, and execution of high-voltage electrical substations. Your expertise will be critical in ensuring the successful integration of renewable energy sources (such as solar, wind, and battery storage) into our grid infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
Lead the design and engineering efforts for substations, including greenfield and brownfield projects.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (including civil, electrical, and control engineers) to develop comprehensive substation designs.
Create detailed project specifications, design drawings, and documentation.
Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols.
Evaluate technical feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and constructability of design packages.
Develop single-line diagrams, layout drawings, raceway systems, grounding systems, and station service.
Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance.
Interface with clients, subcontractors, and equipment factories.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (Master's preferred).
Professional Engineer (PE) license or actively working towards it.
Minimum 7-10 years of experience in substation design, ideally with renewable energy integration.
Proficiency in protection and control design (protective relays) and/or physical design.
Strong knowledge of industry standards (IEEE, NESC, etc.).
