The School of Humanities and Sciences (H&S) is the foundation of a liberal arts education at Stanford. The school encompasses 24 departments and 24 interdisciplinary programs. Department/Program Description: The Department of African and African American Studies (DAAAS) was officially launched in January 2024. The department focuses on the core principles of furthering excellence, encouraging critique, and pursuing the positive social transformation of people of African descent in Africa and the diaspora not only through multiple scholarly perspectives and models, but also through the study of art practices and the creation of art works. The department offers an undergraduate degree to provide students with an interdisciplinary introduction to the study of African, African American, and of African descended people all over the world as a central component of American and world culture. Courses in the major promote research across disciplinary and departmental boundaries in the arts and humanities and will provide students with research training and community service-learning opportunities. Courses of study are drawn from art, art history, cultural anthropology, economics, education, film, dance, performance studies and theatre, literature and literary studies, history, languages, linguistics, music, philosophy, political science, psychology, religion, and gender & sexuality studies, among others. Position Summary: The Department of African and African American Studies is seeking a Faculty Affairs Coordinator to support the operational processes relating to searches and appointing faculty and other teaching staff. The Faculty Affairs Coordinator will work under general supervision of the Director of Finance and Operations (DFO) and must possess and demonstrate a positive outlook on continuous process improvement efforts while maintaining a team-based and customer-focused mindset. It is critical that this position exhibit the abilities to practice sound judgment and decision-making, effective written & oral communication, strong attention to detail and respectful relationship management. This position must also exhibit a strong desire to continuously learn new and unfamiliar business topics, policies and procedures as they relate to Faculty Affairs Coordinator role- the ability to translate this information into operational successes will be critical.


This is a 50% FTE, six-month fixed term non-exempt position. This position will be based on the Stanford campus and will be considered for an option of telecommuting (hybrid of working on-site and off-site), subject to operational need

CORE DUTIES
:




  • Gather information for search initiations, search waivers, re-appointments, and promotions. Collect applications and provide administrative support to search and review committees; provide advice on process requirements.


  • Post job announcements and distribute other outreach materials to attract candidates.


  • Coordinate all logistical aspects of candidate visits, including arranging transportation and accommodations, scheduling meetings and interviews, and processing reimbursements.


  • Gather all components of the appointment/promotion form and organize in compliance with guidelines.


  • Maintain records documenting search, recruitment, and appointment/promotion processes.


  • Assemble and draft materials for the appointment and promotion files.


  • Process and track approved activities (e.g., sabbaticals and other leaves, resignations, retirements, FTE changes), and maintain appropriate documentation and communication.


  • Assist in coordination of visa process, as needed.


  • Support logistical arrangements relating to faculty lectures series and talks.


  • Support verification of financial transactions of DAAAS faculty.


  • Other administrative support to faculty, as needed.




EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
:


Associate degree and one year of experience working with administrative processes, or combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Ability to track, monitor and adhere to deadlines.


  • Ability to learn university systems.


  • Experience working with databases and Microsoft Office suite.

  • Demonstrated ability to work well with Stanford colleagues and clients and with external organizations.

The position may or may not have occasional extended hours.

  • The expected pay range for this position is $36.32 to $39.37 per hour.The actual pay will be pro-rated based on the 50% FTE.
