Department Summary


The College of Applied & Collaborative Studies (CACS) prepares students to engage with a rapidly changing environment through partnership and innovation. In collaboration with industry partners in the DFW metroplex, CACS creates ongoing opportunities for students to learn and grow in today's workforce through project-based learning. Our students work on real-world problems with industry leaders in a collaborative setting that interweaves liberal arts, data analysis, project management, and design thinking principles.



Position Overview


Conducts and coordinates tasks related to advising, recruitment, orientation, and retention of undergraduate students in the College of Applied & Collaborative Studies. Prepares degree plans, plan approval forms, degree audits, graduation audits, and other documentation of student plans and progress.



Minimum Qualifications


Bachelor's Degree and two years' of experience in student affairs, student services, counseling, or professional academic advising.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


Strong presentation skills. Strong problem solving skills. Ability to use a variety of complex computer applications. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations verbally and in writing. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to work independently and lead project teams effectively. Considerable knowledge of University policies and procedures related to functional area (or ability to rapidly assimilate).



Preferred Qualifications


The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications: Academic Advising Experience at the 2yr institution level (Community College, Junior College). Academic Advising Experience working with veterans, adult/nontraditional students and/or students with nontraditional forms of credit such veterans and active duty military.



Required License/Registration/Certifications




Job Duties:



  • Advising: Holistic academic advising to CACS continuing and prospective students regarding university requirements and individual CACS program requirements. Incorporates student career goals into major selection and other issues related to overall student success. Makes appropriate referrals to campus resources.

  • Processing: Prepare and update degree audits for new students or change of majors, evaluating and applying transfer work in accordance with University and College policies; Review and process graduation applications; Document advising appointments and student interactions in the advising software and provides follow-up with students, as needed

  • Leadership: Contribute to the overall organizational health and performance of New College programs through teamwork, knowledge sharing, professional development, and professional relationship building. Maintains cordial and professional attitude within the office, university, and community. Serves as team lead for special project(s) or program(s) and prepares materials, as needed. Assists with training of Associate Academic Advisors, as needed.

  • Engagement: Prepare and present CACS degree information during New Student Orientation, major changer group sessions, and other group activities; participate in commencement ceremony duties. Assists with recruitment program development and other special events.

  • Professionalism: Demonstrates commitment to professionalism and ongoing professional development.

  • Customer Service: Promotes goodwill and quality customer service to students, faculty, staff, and community members. Is effective in handling a variety of student situations.



Work Schedule:


Monday - Friday 8am to 5pm, with occasional evenings and weekends

Special Instructions:


Main office location is in Frisco at Inspire Park. Will also have office hours in Denton once a week or more.
