You will have an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to electrical design pertaining to Electrical Switchboard & Switchgear in both the North American (UL) and European (IEC) markets.



Responsibilities


Reporting to the Director of Product Management this position presents an excellent opportunity for a qualified professional pertaining to mechanical design functions of power distribution equipment. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Work with mechanical design team and CAD in the preparation of detailed design drawings and documentation.
  • In depth review of tender information including specifications, single line diagrams and quotations to ensure compliance with customer requirements. In particular ensuring that component selections comply with customer's design and take deviation where needed.
  • Creation and review of mechanical design drawings compiled by design engineers as well as coaching and mentoring junior members of the team
  • Contribute to the development of new practices and processes within design team and assist in implementation of these to improve order engineering department performance (reduced cycle time and faster releases to the production floor)
  • Using knowledge of NEC and UL standards to ensure products are designed to comply with all relevant regulations and standards (as well as Vertiv product structure)
  • Work with the Application Engineering team (pricing & sales) to ensure a design has been created that is cost effective while, meets customer's requirements and is optimized for design for manufacturing.
  • Support Application Engineering (pricing) to ensure that the quotation meets and exceeds all aspects of the customer's requirements. When exceptions are taken engineer solutions that still provide the intent of the design and clearly articulate how the exception complies with the intent.
  • Create customer prototype designs that support the quotation process and securing the order. These prototype design then become the basis of design to hand off to order engineering for project execution and delivery.
  • Development busway flange connections to switchboards for Vertiv busway as well as competitive systems based on customer requirements in the specification. Through this process work with the Vertiv busway team to create STEP files for digital modeling.
  • As a part of the R&D team this role will also take customer facing design schemes and apply the lessons learned to new product development activities. Work closely with the electrical team to create mechanical designs that meet multiple electrical component needs as well as planning for wire ways.
  • Codes and Standards activities are also critical and there may be opportunities to represent Vertiv on NFPA (NEC) panels to influence the electrical code in the USA.
  • Working knowledge of seismic requirements and testing procedures. Ability to work with seismic consultants to model scenarios and seek approval via simulation methodology when possible.
  • Support in the creation of a knowledgebase / item master that feeds the Vertiv configuration and pricing tool.



Required Knowledge, Experience, Skills, and Abilities


Proven exposure and track record as follows;
  • Proven experience in a related position / comparable role involving exposure to design engineering and managing multiple ongoing projects
  • Bachelor of Engineering College Degree (Mechanical)
  • Proven understanding of UL standards including but not limited to UL 1558, UL 891, UL 489 & UL 1066.
  • Aptitude for problem solving and ability to apply this to electrical control design
  • An adaptability to respond to a fast-moving business environment.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Display a proactive flexible approach to working within a team environment.
