Description

The Director of the East Saint Louis Center for Performing Arts is responsible for overseeing and managing a dynamic program of visual and performing arts education for youth in the Greater Metro East area. The Director will provide strategic leadership in program development, budget management, staff supervision, and grant administration, while ensuring a safe, supportive, and enriching environment for participants aged 7-17. This role involves collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, community outreach, and ensuring the program’s alignment with its mission to foster confidence, teamwork, and artistic expression in local youth.

Key Responsibilities:Program Management

  • Program Development & Delivery: Design and implement programs for performing arts education that serve the local community. Develop yearly program calendars, including after-school dates, recital dates, summer camp schedules, and marketing/recruitment deadlines.
  • Logistics Coordination: Coordinate the use of facilities (studios, classrooms), arrange for events and performances, and organize field trips. Ensure smooth execution of all program activities.
  • Marketing & Recruitment: Oversee marketing and recruitment efforts, including the creation of promotional materials (flyers, advertisements), direct outreach to local schools, and managing participant applications.
  • Instructional Support: Collaborate with instructors to develop curriculum and support the assessment of student outcomes. Fill in as an instructor when necessary due to staff absence.
Budget and Financial Oversight
  • Budget Management: Develop, monitor, and maintain the program's budget. Ensure expenditures align with budget allocations and comply with University policies, as well as grant regulations.
  • Expense Tracking: Maintain an independent record of all program expenditures, regularly reconciling with the ESL Center’s accounting team. Submit all required documentation for review and approval, including reconciliation of P-Card transactions.
Grant Management and Funding
  • Grant Proposal Preparation: In collaboration with the Deputy Director and the Office of Research and Partnerships (ORP), prepare and submit grant proposals to secure funding for the program.
  • Grant Reporting & Documentation: Maintain participant records, track program outcomes, and ensure timely completion of grant reports to funders. Work closely with funders to ensure compliance and continued support.
  • Alternative Funding & Donor Relations: Identify and pursue additional funding sources, including private donors, foundations, and community partners. Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with donors, ensuring appropriate follow-up communications (e.g., thank you letters).
Staff Supervision & Development
  • Team Management: Supervise and evaluate program staff, including the Assistant Director, after-school arts instructors, and summer camp instructors. Provide guidance and support to staff to ensure high-quality program delivery.
  • Staff Recruitment & Retention: Oversee staffing needs, forecast vacancies, submit hiring requests, and lead the recruitment process, including interviewing, onboarding, and training new staff members. Maintain appropriate staffing levels for the program’s success.
  • Payroll & HR Administration: Support the HR functions related to the program, including reviewing payroll certifications and compensated activity reports for accuracy.
Administrative Oversight
  • Equipment & Supplies Management: Ensure effective management and control of program equipment, supplies, and materials. Ensure that all program materials are accounted for and maintained.
  • Administrative Support: Participate in ESL Center and Young Campus administrative efforts, including attending directors’ meetings and campus-wide quarterly meetings. Ensure program compliance with University policies and procedures.
  • Safety & Risk Management: Work proactively to ensure the safety and well-being of all program participants, staff, and volunteers.
Community Outreach & Partnerships
  • Community Engagement: Build and maintain strong partnerships with local community organizations, schools, and stakeholders. Develop collaborative initiatives that enhance the program's visibility and impact.
  • Performance Opportunities: Coordinate opportunities for program participants to perform in community events and gain exposure to the broader arts community.
  • Family Engagement: Provide opportunities for participants and their families to engage with the arts through performances, workshops, and other community-based activities.

Typical Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Arts Management/Arts Administration, Education, Management, Public Administration, or related field.
  • In lieu of degree, demonstrated, related management and administration experience of 5 years or greater will be considered.

Preferred:
  • Supervision experience
  • Experience as a music, dance or other arts instructor/administrator
  • Experience writing and managing grants

Additional Information: This position does not offer work authorization sponsorship. International students at SIUE on F-1 or J-1 visas are not eligible for full-time or part-time civil service positions with permanent status.
