JOB SUMMARY:
The Autonomous Solutions Manager will oversee all aspects of Empire's Autonomous Mining Technology business within Empire's service territory. This role will implement strategies to improve overall organizational effectiveness with existing and future technology platforms by aligning and enhancing our current technology capabilities to better serve internal operations and our clients. They will serve as the catalyst for autonomous technology business development by evaluating and recommending technology business solutions to leadership. The role will be responsible for training engineers and technicians on technical support, call plan management, and managing client relationships. They will offer expert level support to engineers in the identification and implementation of optimal product and service solutions. They will be responsible for all commercial activities related to autonomous technology and assist the commercial mining team with proposals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
Lead and motivate the autonomous mining team by managing performance and assisting with recruiting and hiring of new team members.
Provide strategic technology assessments and recommendations to improve marketing and support in alignment with Caterpillar and Empire's Southwest vision.
Supervise direct reports, assigning and directing work/projects, appraising performance, and developing annual individual/team goals and objectives.
Provide support to mining leadership in sales, service, support, and marketing of technology.
Participate in commercial technology sales opportunities and commercial events.
Ensure parts, sales, and service support for autonomous technology products meet or exceed client expectations.
Report regularly to leadership on Empire and Caterpillar success metrics for our autonomous technology business.
Take corrective action as required to improve on results that are below target.
Advise leadership team of barriers to achieving objectives.
Work closely with Caterpillar on technology related dealer performance metrics. Develop internal metrics where needed.
Prioritize, assign, and monitor work and project progression to ensure maximum efficiency, productivity, and impact.
Coordinate support activities and technical communication with business partners and manufacturers.
Oversee escalation process in business systems to ensure maximum efficiency.
Provide strategies in training and development to enhance individual and team productivity, safety, and profitability.
Make decisions and recommend actions to solve product problems. Escalate issues appropriately.
Supervise installations of technology products and services. Assist less experienced members with product installations, repairs software and hardware updates as necessary.
Travel to job sites and outlying locations as needed. Occasional overnight travel required.
Create an environment of ownership and personal accountability where each person is responsible and accountable for their performance.
Work safely always. Adhere to all applicable safety policies. Comply with all company policies, procedures, and standards.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist leaders with the development of yearly budget. Oversee employee expenses and manage budget.
Create and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external clients and staff.
Delegate tasks while maintaining oversight and accountability.
Lead and encourage others to promote solutions-oriented commercial proposals.
Stay current with manufacturer technology service letters and distribute information appropriately.
Learn and effectively leverage business partners, manufacturer systems and procedures.
Promote and utilize business systems to track client contacts, services, and other business activities as appropriate.
Maintain training aids, tools, and equipment.
Manage spares and parts inventory effectively to support clients.
Complete site-specific training and pit driving, as required.
Develop relationships that inspire trust and confidence in the company as a preferred technology solutions provider.
Maintain open communications with leaders and team members.
Communicate effectively to clarify instructions, solve technical related issues, and discuss scope and progress of jobs.
Work within and promote corporate values.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
Strong computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office products, networking, software installation, registry editing, hardware specification analysis, fleet management software, and work order applications.
Strong verbal and written communications skills sufficient for effective management level presentations
Strong conflict management skills to promote solutions-oriented behaviors.
Strong collaboration and team building skills.
Strong planning and organizational skills.
Ability to read electrical system diagrams for the purposes of performing installations and repairs.
Perform advanced trouble shooting for digital and analog electronic components, electrical wiring, and related mechanical systems.
Strong grasp of electrical circuit theory and ability to read electrical schematics.
Ability to travel out of town for days at a time and adjust schedule to work evenings or weekends as necessary.
Ability to achieve MSHA certification, if applicable.
Ability to use a multi-meter and test for voltage, current, and continuity.
Advanced knowledge and understanding of GPS surveying methods.
Strong mechanical knowledge and skills. Knowledge of fabrication practices and ability to use hand and portable power tools.
Ability to work independently daily.
Must have acceptable attendance to meet all company standards and requirements.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
Minimum of 5 years of information technology, machine control, guidance systems, or heavy equipment service industry experience preferred.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Survey Technology, Computer Science, or Information Technology with a focus on networking or equivalent work experience preferred.
Project management experience preferred.
Maintain valid driver's license and suitable driving record for the purposes of business travel.
Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write) in English.
