The College of Health and Public Service (HPS) at the University of North Texas, distinguished as one of the few Tier One research universities designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), prepares graduates to address diverse and complex social issues such as aging, disability, disaster management and recovery, criminal justice, health disparities, and public safety, and find solutions to challenges in public administration, public health, and urban planning. HPS students are trained to lead nonprofits, become educators, researchers and professionals who strengthen the diverse communities we serve with thoughtful, inclusive and equitable practices as audiologists, behavior analysts, city managers, emergency managers, health care administrators, public safety administrators, public health specialists, rehabilitation counselors, speech language pathologists, social workers, urban planners and more.
Located within HPS, the Department of Public Administration offers a nationally ranked NASPAA-accredited Master of Public Administration program and the Ph.D. program in Public Administration and Management. The department, which has a long tradition of local community engagement, also offers undergraduate degrees in Nonprofit Leadership Studies and Urban Policy and Planning, as well as an undergraduate minor in Public Administration. With thirteen faculty and two staff members, the department is an active unit that values student service, externally funded research, and engaging community stakeholders to support the public good. The department also houses the Center for Public Management to support our academic and community engagement missions.
UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.
Position Overview
The Department of Public Administration at the University of North Texas invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor beginning August 2025. The hire will primarily serve the undergraduate Urban Policy and Planning degree program and will support the broader course offerings within the Department. The Department seeks candidates whose research portfolio focuses on a substantive subfield of urban planning. Subfields of interest include housing, land use planning, or transportation. An offer of employment for these positions will be made dependent upon available funding.
Minimum Qualifications
* Doctoral degree in urban planning, or a closely related discipline, by the time of appointment
* Demonstrated commitment to excellence in research and teaching
* Demonstrated ability to teach the core planning courses for the BA in Urban Policy and Planning
* Demonstrated ability to establish a strong research record and attract external funding
Preferred Qualifications
* A Ph.D. in urban planning from a PAB-accredited planning program
* Publication record in scholarly outlets
* AICP certification
