The Department of Human Genetics is currently seeking a full time Research Associate 2 to work in Miami. The Research Associate 2, SOM contributes to the University's research activities under the supervision of senior staff. Moreover, the incumbent understands, interprets, and complies with research policies and protocols.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs specialized and complex experiments/studies.
Participates in the publication of significant research results.
Advances expertise through education, training, and research.
Writes extramural grants/proposals to gain support when appropriate.
Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens and tissue cultures.
Weighs and anesthetizes laboratory animals for experiments.
Operates sensitive and highly complex laboratory equipment.
Performs calculations to complete research test results.
Performs photography and dark room processing.
Participates in training sessions and workshops.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in relevant field
Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.
Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
Department Specific Functions
With direction from the Lab Manager, support daily lab operations to help maintain a safe, clean, and orderly lab environment.
Keep meticulous laboratory records and communicate efficiently and transparently about the experiments.
Ability to. Perform mouse husbandry duties including breeding, weaning, tail clipping, ear punching, DNA extraction, PCR genotyping, and strict record keeping in electronic databases.
Communicate with vivarium staff and the campus veterinarian regarding animal care and health monitoring.
Establish, perform and analyze biochemical experiments.
Employ a variety of techniques including: molecular cloning, mammalian and insect tissue culture, PCR, Western Blots, baculovirus production, cell transfection and infection, affinity purification.
Maintaining aseptic technique, preparing media with the appropriate characteristics, passaging, freezing and storage, recovering frozen stocks, and counting viable cells.
Interest in learning to dissect mice embryo skeletons.
Ability/Interest in dissecting mice tissues/cells.
Assistance/Interest in learning next-generation sequencing techniques (i.e. ChIPseq, RNAseq, CUT&RUN, 4C-seq) and associated library preparations (if needed).
Work independently to design, perform, and analyze experiments.
Actively contribute to research projects, including supporting experiments and presentation of data in laboratory meetings
Participate in laboratory meetings as well as one-on-one meetings with Dr. Reinberg. Read literature applicable to the research area(s).
