Cobb EMC has an exciting opportunity for an Engineering and Operations Data Analyst who will be responsible for the development of new analytics, metrics, and reports on diverse datasets to deduce insights and solve real-world business problems. This includes designing databases and ensuring their stability, reliability, and performance. The E&O Data Analyst utilizes mathematics, statistics, modeling, business analysis, and technology to transform high volumes of complex data into advanced analytic solutions

Responsibilities
What you will be doing:
Data Management Responsibilities
Data Collection & Integration: Gather data from various operational sources, including Geographic Information System (GIS), SCADA systems, smart meters (AMI), grid sensors (IoT), outage management system (OMS), Work Management System (WMS), Customer Information System (CIS), Enterprise Asset Management (EAM), Automated Vehicle Location (AVL), Fleet Management, Supply Chain. Integrate this data into centralized databases or data warehouses.
Data Analysis: Analyze operational data to identify trends, inefficiencies, or anomalies within the electrical distribution network. This includes work order status tracking, load forecasting, outage analysis and reliability indices, and performance tracking.
Reporting & Visualization: Create reports, dashboards, and data visualizations to present key insights and findings to stakeholders. Use tools like Power BI, or other reporting software.
System Performance Monitoring: Track the performance of electrical distribution systems and life cycle of equipment/apparatus. This can include analyzing power quality, monitoring voltage stability, maintenance records, and ensuring compliance with performance standards.
Outage Analysis & Restoration Optimization: Assist in analyzing outages, predicting outages, identifying causes, and helping to optimize restoration efforts. Use historical data to improve response times and minimize downtime.
Predictive Maintenance: Utilize predictive analytics to assess equipment health and recommend maintenance schedules to prevent unexpected failures, helping to reduce downtime and maintenance costs.
Data Quality Assurance: Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of data used for analysis by developing data validation procedures and performing regular quality checks.
Data Migration or Transformation (ETL): Extract, transform, load, aggregate and analyze data to and from multiple sources, systems, and formats.
Collaboration with Engineering & Operations: Work closely with engineers, operations managers, Supply Chain, fleet, and field staff to ensure data-driven insights translate into actionable decisions.
Compliance & Regulatory Reporting: Prepare data and reports for regulatory compliance, ensuring that the company meets all relevant industry standards and legal requirements.
Support Grid Modernization: Provide data analysis support for grid modernization efforts, such as smart grid implementation, renewable energy integration, tracking of EV growth, transformer loading, DERMS and other technological advancements.
Process Improvement: Recommend and implement process improvements based on data insights to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve the overall reliability of the electrical distribution system.
System Interoperability Planning & Development, and Training
Design and implement system interoperability programs, and produce reports as needed
Develop new programs as necessary to accomplish desired results
Determine requirements, design, develop, and debug programs for interfaces
Follow Cobb’s project management methodology
Develop test plans for application upgrades
Ensure that current and new employees are trained in the efficient use of all applications
Communicate effectively with employees to ensure their efficient use of the applications
Assist in preparing and maintaining technical and user documentation
Provide follow-up training to ensure employee understanding and use of the applications
Collaborate with IT to ensure accurate documentation for hardware and software configuration and database structure
Maintain competence in the use of all corporate E&O applications
Effectively develop programs to more fully automate routine operations
Analyze application impacts to determine development feasibility
Provide and maintain adequate documentation to all users of the systems
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or a related engineering field.
Minimum two years work experience in Data Analysis
Working knowledge in Python, SQL, and other database technologies
Previous demonstrated experience in Power BI, and other Microsoft Power Platform products
Working experience with databases, database access, data interpretation, strategy development, process improvement and data presentation
Working experience in analyzing and visualizing data in maps, dashboards, and reports
Working experience in with ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) tools like FME
Previous experience on data synchronization between different systems or databases
Demonstrated ability to analyze, document and resolve problems, and articulate the problems and solutions to technical audiences
SKILLS:
Advanced technical skills to retrieve, manipulate, analyze, and interpret substantial amounts of data
Ability to build scalable systems and solutions that analyze huge data sets and make actionable recommendations
Solid understanding of mathematical and statistical concepts
High degree of skill in multiple step logic
Exceptional understanding of Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL programing, Power BI, as well as good knowledge of Python, and DAX functions
Ability to analyze verbal and written statements regarding business and engineering needs
Ability to analyze, explain and discuss complex analysis and programming issues
Effective interpersonal skills for interacting with various employees and groups
Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision
Excellent communication skills to conduct training and support in system operations
PREFERRED:
Previous utility experience
Understanding of electrical distribution network components and electrical connectivity
Previous experience with R programming
Previous experience with other Microsoft Power Platform products (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power Pages)
Previous experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
Previous experience with OMS, CIS, WMS, Vegetation Management Applications, Esri GIS Tools, and ArcFM
Knowledge of MultiSpeak specification
Knowledge of real-time systems and Web Services
