Description: Position Description

The Associate Director of Development and Donor Engagement will create and lead BSCP's first comprehensive strategy to expand philanthropic support for the BSCP. This role will independently drive all development and donor engagement efforts as well as coordinate the participation of Board members, staff, and other stakeholders in generating resources for BSCP. Specific duties include identifying and strengthening relationships with prospective and current funders, pursuing and managing corporate donors and individual supporters, leading strong donor and sponsor stewardship programs, and overseeing grant funding. The position is new and reports directly to the BSCP Executive Director (ED) under the leadership of the Dean for Diversity Inclusion and Community Partnership (DICP) at Harvard Medical School. Expected fundraising goal is approximately $1 Million annually with the anticipation that the amount will grow incrementally as time progresses



Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead BSCP's overall development strategy to grow philanthropic support in alignment with best practices; create annual plan and calendar.
  • Lead all day-to-day activities for fundraising, including identifying new funding opportunities, managing donor communications, and creating case materials.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with corporate, individual, and institutional donors; design and implement a donor stewardship program.
  • Serve as liaison to the BSCP Board Development Committee; engage Board members in fundraising efforts and donor outreach.
  • Plan and execute fundraising events, such as the annual Evening of Hope gala, in collaboration with the Board, event co-chairs, and host committees.
  • Research prospective donors, foundations, and companies; manage submission of proposals, grant requests, and funding inquiries.
  • Oversee the implementation of donor-management software, ensuring smooth gift processing and reporting.
  • Collaborate with DICP to identify and pursue co-sponsored funding opportunities.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for funding, donations, and fundraising campaign inquiries.
  • Oversee the implementation and integration of BSCP's new donor-management software, including developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure seamless gift processing, timely acknowledgments, and accurate reporting for enhanced donor engagement and operational efficiency.


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in development, fundraising, or donor engagement.


Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Proven experience building and maintaining donor relationships and executing successful fundraising strategies.
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with internal teams, administrators, volunteers, and donors to advance engagement and fundraising goals.
  • Strong interpersonal, written communication, and listening skills.
  • High initiative, accountability, and the ability to work independently.
  • A strategic thinker with the ability to innovate and drive results.
  • Experience managing donor databases and utilizing CRMs (Bloomerang experience a plus).
  • Passion for diversity, equity, inclusion, and a strong interest in STEM education.

This is a one-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position.
