Adjunct Instructor in Flagler CORE - History
Location:
Flagler College-St. Augustine Campus
Open Date:
Sep 18, 2024
Description:
Flagler College is seeking a part-time instructor to teach in-person courses in Historical Inquiry in our Core (General Education) Program.
Flagler College's Core Education Curriculum is organized around 9 Core "Literacies" or skills, as well as the College's Core Values (Transformative Learning; Respectful and Inclusive Community; Citizenship with Integrity; and Thoughtful Stewardship). Courses are designed to address a single literacy and are themed around one of the College's Core Values.
Classes in Historical Inquiry require students to engage with primary and secondary sources and to produce and defend explanations of historical events. Classes may focus on time periods or specific events but must in any case be skill-based in assessment. Current courses in Historical Inquiry explore topics including migration, utopia and dystopia, the animal-human relationship, the local history of Saint Augustine, film history, the history of war, and the Civil Rights movement.
Instructors will typically choose from pre-made course titles and themes in their assigned literacy and will receive guidance in the form of syllabus templates, with the freedom to modify assignments and course content to suit their backgrounds and interests. Samples of approved Core courses can be found at the link above. Recurring part-time instructors also have the scope to propose new courses.
