The Quality Manager will participate in the management of the quality system to ensure customer satisfaction while improving process measurables. participates in the Operational Excellence activities both at the plant and corporate level. Works with all functional areas to improve safety, reduce scrap, minimize cost, maximize productivity, achieve organizational objectives, and ensure continual improvements in meeting customer requirements. Has primary responsibility for ensuring the MTI Operating System is maintained and promoted.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for implementing and maintaining customer product quality requirements, maintaining the ISO9001 requirements and directing internal quality initiatives.
Manages and directs all quality department personnel.
Functions in conjunction with the sales department for customer liaison and supplier development activities.
Monitors process controls and performance and evaluates recommendations for process and equipment adjustments or changes.
Monitors product/material evaluations and procedural or process control measures to ensure that all products conform to customer specifications.
Manages, organizes, verifies, and reports on the quality system.
Develops and implements inspection and sampling techniques and quality control plans.
Conducts investigations on product defects and recommends modifications in product or quality standards as warranted.
Interacts with and visits customers and suppliers when necessary to confer on quality/technical issues.
Maintains the corrective action system, both internal and external.
Perform routine layout work on lab equipment.
Owner of MTI - PG Operating System ("Operational Excellence")
Manages and directs Operational Excellence processes, projects, and activities.
Assist plant in identifying and prioritizing improvement opportunities.
Provides direction and guidance with plant level projects to ensure deliverables are met.
Provides structure to Operational Excellence projects to ensure standardized processes are being used throughout the corporation.
Utilize benchmarking process for resolving plant issues and to determine plant and industry best practices.
Tracking and reporting of Operational Excellence projects to plant and corporate management team.
Manage the investigation of operational issues by gathering / evaluating data and the development of recommended solutions.
Manages the design and layout of equipment, materials, and workspaces to maximize efficiency and utilization.
Manage projects and other duties as assigned.
Provide training to project champions as needed.
Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements:
Extensive knowledge of Quality Standards, such as ISO9001 and IATF16949.
Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
Must be able to work in and encourage a team environment and facilitate change when necessary.
Working knowledge of quality practices and principles.
Proficient knowledge of PC software applications including Word, Excel, Docushare (Should be SharePoint) and mainframe software (e.g., Odyssey).
Strong background in statistical techniques.
Strong knowledge of automotive and non-automotive PPAP/ISIR, MSA, APQP, SPC, FMEA and other relative requirements.
Proficient in GD&T and blueprint reading.
Ability to utilize problem solving methodology such as, 5-Why, 3-legged 5-Why, or 8D.
Strong ability to analyze complex situations and make timely decisions.
Knowledge of foundry products and characteristics.
Knowledge of machining processes and procedures.
Knowledge of casting defects and related causes and solutions.
Working Conditions
The Quality Manager will reside in the office and on the production floor. Must be able to adhere to conditions of the plant.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time and on their feet 50% on the production floor.
Must be able to move about inside the office and in the plant.
This position will operate a computer and other machinery in the plant.
Must be able to frequently communicate with employees and other individuals in person and telephone.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Engineering or technical degree or ASQ certification preferred.
3-7 years of quality management experience.
Machining experience preferred.
Project Management Certification or equivalent desired
5 or more years of experience as an engineer or project manager in a manufacturing setting preferred.
Experience with CAD and/or 3-D modeling such as AutoCAD and/or Pro/E preferred.
