Formulate and test concepts, model, design, and develop prototypes, and execute extensive stability and reliability testing to produce manufacturable lasers according to rapidly changing customer specifications.
Provide progress updates and maintain timelines for multiple projects.
Work with the production team to ameliorate build process issues such as yield and consistency.
Work with service teams to troubleshoot and provide failure analysis, and incorporate customer feedback into design improvements.
Intermittent travel requirements to provide on-site customer support if needed.
Requirements
M.S. or Ph.D. in Engineering Physics, Photonics, Optics, or another related scientific/technical discipline.
3+ years of hands-on experience with design, assembly, alignment, and troubleshooting of lasers and complicated optical setups in a production environment. Other types of experience, such as that involving laser operation, optical setups, and applied physics, are considered.
Qualifications
Knowledge of DPSS and/or fiber laser technologies, laser and optical design and modeling, optical components and materials from UV to IR, optical metrology and measurement equipment, and laser systems.
Familiarity with diffraction gratings, polarization optics, free-space beam propagation and shaping using reflective and refractive elements, acousto-optics, electro-optics, and general laser principles.
Excellent understanding of the interplay of structural, optical, and thermal design features on system performance.
Ability to do comprehensive in-lab hands-on experimentation and data analysis.
Experience with ultrafast laser diagnostic equipment.
Experience with industry software, including Zemax.
Experience with ultrafast laser diagnostic equipment.
Extra Qualifications
Experience with the modeling and design of high-power fiber laser systems, and validation of models through comprehensive experimentation and data analysis.
