Position Specific Description NextEra Energy is currently seeking an Electrical Fleet Team Electrical Engineer (Excitation and Generator System Relay Protection Subject Matter Expert SME) who can apply diversified knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practices to a broad variety of assignments and fields related to fossil power generation. This candidate will need to make decisions independently regarding engineering complexities and methods. This position requires the use of advanced techniques and modification and extension of theories, precepts, and practices in this individual's field. Supervision and guidance related largely to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters will be required. This individual will present to executive leadership and communicate RCA's and implementation plans. Employees in this role have responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating assignments. This involves exploration of subject area, definition of scope, selection of areas for investigation, and development of novel concepts.
This position does require some travel with 24/7 phone coverage in support of operational sites.
Areas Of Responsibility And Duties
Provides technical leadership and mentoring to Electrical team engineers.
Provides budget and technical guidance for capital and outage engineering projects concerned with unique or controversial complexities which have important impact on major company programs.

Provide technical expertise in development of technical specifications, procedures, and processes.
Acts as technical liaison to individuals within and outside the organization with responsibility to act.

Completes assignments given in broad terms concerning general objectives and limitations
Provides Excitation and Generator System Protection Relay technical knowledge of most OEM's.
Site operational problem evaluation / analysis / solution application
System component aging evaluation / analysis
Utilization / Analysis of diagnostic monitoring software
Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA), failure mode determination
Provide NERC Reliability Standard support for the fossil fleet
Lead PRC-019, MOD-026/027 execution and technical support
Technical Support for other NERC standards related to Excitation/AVR interactions with Bulk Electrical System operations
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Excitation Systems (AVR / LCI) The EFT Excitation and Generator System Relay Protection SME is responsible for primary system and their auxiliary systems, diagnostics, root cause analysis and countermeasure development, including but not limited to:
GE EX2100
Siemens Excitation systems
Toshiba Excitation systems
Mitsubishi Excitation systems
LCI system of all 4 above OEM's
AVR's
Other assigned duties
Generator System Relay Protection
Relay knowledge
Understanding of individual relay protection Schemes
Desired Qualifications
Strongly preferred to have knowledge and experience in operation, diagnostics, design, testing and repair techniques of equipment.
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering with at least five years of experience in the field of Excitation and Generator System Relay Protection and their auxiliary equipment technology. Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer is a plus.
