Position Overview
The Senior level Human Resources Generalist will provide comprehensive HR support at the Area level, covering employee relations, performance management, benefits administration, and compliance with employment laws. This role serves as a key point of contact for employees and management, ensuring consistent application of HR policies and practices to support the organization's goals and standards. The HR Generalist will collaborate with HR Managers, business management teams, and other HR team members to enhance departmental efficiency.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
Act as an HR resource for employees, addressing inquiries on HR policies, procedures, and employment issues.
Mediate and resolve employee conflicts and lead investigations to resolution, fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.
Assist with employee relations investigations, as needed.
Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and other meetings as needed.
Facilitate and present orientation for new hires.
Process life-cycle changes and other HR paperwork for employees.
Assist in performance appraisal processes for non-manager employees.
Educate employees on available benefits and support enrollment processes.
Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources.
Partner with Learning & Development teams to initiate training programs that meet business needs.
Support employee engagement initiatives to build a positive company culture.
Provide English/Spanish language translation assistance, as needed.
Act as liaison between employees and management to answer questions regarding company policies, practices, and regulations.
Submit change requests to the Region office staff timely, for changes such as promotions, salary changes, transfers, name changes, terminations, etc.
Process new hire paperwork timely and accurately.
Regular and predictable attendance is required, along with willingness to work flexible hours when needed.
Qualifications
Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience preferred). 3+ years of HR experience required in a Generalist or similar role.
Experience in a construction environment is advantageous.
Certification: HR certification preferred.
Language: Bilingual in English and Spanish required.
Knowledge/Skills:
Strong understanding of HR laws, regulations, and best practices.
Proven ability to develop positive working relationships, and to work with teams as both a leader and as a participant.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information. High standards of ethics, integrity, and trust.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills; building rapport, empathy, active listening, presentation skills, giving and receiving feedback.
Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Work Requirements
Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to safely operate a vehicle.
Must be willing to travel up to 25% of the time and work nights or weekends if necessary (some overnight travel will also occasionally be required). During peak periods, travel may increase up to 50%.
Must feel comfortable speaking amongst large groups.
Strict adherence to safety procedures, including compliance with personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements in designated areas.
Compliance with all OSHA and /or MSHA regulations.
Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen, and background check.
Physical Requirements
May occasionally lift or carry up to 15 lbs.
Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Frequent use of hands and fingers, as well as the ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear.
Work Environment
Standard office environment with moderate noise levels.
Fast-paced with deadlines and requires regular attendance and dependability.
