Job Description:

Plans, organizes and monitors the Purchasing department ensuring a smooth and consistent operation for the timely arrival of parts and supplies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure systems and processes are in place for effective communications.
  • Facilitate activities and strategies related to delivering necessary business results.
  • Provide coaching/mentoring to buyers effecting leadership skills, comfortable with working in a sometimes confrontation environment, monitor to assure adherence to all purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Negotiate vendor contracts and be able to conduct make/buy analysis.
  • Successfully manage people at various levels to help accomplish assigned tasks.
  • Promote use and application of lean manufacturing/six sigma/continuous improvement tools as part of the culture.
  • Partner with leadership team members in executing initiatives and projects to achieve strategic business plan.
  • Monitor and be involved in all aspects of Vendor evaluations
  • Experience with blanket orders and contract terms/terms and conditions.
  • Develop and understand supplier performance metrics & have some quality metric experience. Coordination of bidding/quoting activities to ensure consolidated purchasing power for the entire company.
  • Actively participate in driving business results as a member of the site leadership team.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.

Qualifications/Training:

  • Familiar with the automotive supply base, some cost estimating knowledge and basic cost modeling.
  • Must be computer literate and able to effectively use Microsoft Office Business Suites and/or Lotus. Demonstrated an ability to lead people and get results through others.
  • Ability to read, write, comprehend, and verbally communicate simple instructions, short correspondence and memos in English.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, blue prints, assembly drawing, schematics and other written or verbal instructions presented in English.
  • Ability to recognize quality expected and be able to reproduce it.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience with SAP MRP purchasing systems preferred
  • Minimum 5 years management experience in a manufacturing environment and 3 plus years experience in purchasing, procurement, or inventory control.
