Role Description:
The Coordinator, Construction Safety will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of employees and contractors within DC Water's campuses and operations. Primary duties will include conducting safety inspections, implementing safety protocols, providing safety training, and assisting in investigating incidents or accidents to identify root causes and prevent future occurrences. The Safety Coordinator will collaborate with management and employees to promote a culture of safety and compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Conduct regular safety inspections of the DC Water workplace to identify hazards, potential risks, and areas for improvement.
Implement safety protocols and procedures to minimize risks and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Provide safety training to employees on topics such as proper equipment usage, emergency procedures, and hazard recognition.
Develop and maintain safety manuals, guidelines, and instructional materials to support training initiatives.
Assist with Investigations of accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
Collaborate with management to develop and implement safety improvement initiatives and programs.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety measures and adjust policies and procedures as necessary.
Maintain records and documentation related to safety inspections, training sessions, and incident investigations.
Participate in safety committees and meetings to discuss concerns, share best practices, and drive continuous improvement.
Stay informed about industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in occupational health and safety.
Performs other related duties and projects as assigned at the discretion of the Director, DOSH.

Key Working Relationships: Interacts with operational staff and contractors. Coordinates programs and initiatives with multiple operational and shared services departments.

Required Experience:
Five (5) years of experience in a safety-related role, preferably in a manufacturing, construction, or industrial environment.
Minimum Education Requirements:
A high school diploma or GED

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively train and engage operational employees
Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify potential hazards and risks.
Knowledge of relevant safety regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA, EPA, ANSI).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications.

Preferred Education Requirements:
Associate degree in a relevant field such as Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a related discipline.
Preferred Skills:
Experience in conducting safety inspections and hazard risk reduction mitigation.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Licenses & Certifications:
OSHA 30-Hour General or Construction Industry
Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician (OHST), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
