Shalom Hartman Institute, NA (SHI NA) is seeking a Director, NY & DC Engagement who will serve as an ambassador for the Shalom Hartman Institute, building relationships with local foundations and Federations, Jewish leaders, new individual donors, and partner organizations toward achieving SHI NA's strategic educational and philanthropic goals. Focused on the New York region and Washington, DC, the Director will cultivate a deep understanding of the needs of SHI NA's partners and target audiences and have a thorough grasp of the programmatic and consultative resources SHI NA offers to establish and direct sophisticated and relevant ongoing partnerships and programs for both educational and fundraising purposes. The Director will manage programmatic educational initiatives and be responsible for individual networking, recruitment and outreach for Hartman initiatives. This creative self-starter will also plan and recruit for regular donor/prospect events and meetings, manage strategic stakeholder engagement, and promote and recruit new prospects and members for the SHI NA Giving Society and candidates to serve on the Board of Directors from these regions.
Ideal candidates are experienced engagement professionals, comfortable in a dynamic and fast-paced setting, confident relationship-builders, strategic gift solicitors, can prioritize and are highly effective verbal and written communicators with a strong capacity for time-management.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as a local face of SHI NA in New York and Washington, DC, guiding local educational programs and fundraising activities
Steward existing relationships with federations, individuals, and institutions and cultivate new partnerships
Strategically design, plan, and execute programs for Jewish professionals and philanthropic leaders
Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward new major individual, family, foundation, and institutional funders
Support the various fundraising efforts of specialized campaigns including annual campaign, Board campaign, capital campaign, and planned giving
Recruit new and steward existing participants toward premier SHI NA donor engagement programs including annual Community Leadership Program (CLP) and Hartman Giving Society as well as local and lay leadership educational initiatives
Liaise with local Rabbis, Synagogues, Federations, Foundations, leadership networks and program alumni, to elevate awareness and engagement of lay leaders in SHI NA activity
Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of direct fundraising and programmatic engagement experience
Professional, resourceful, and entrepreneurial
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
Demonstrated project management and problem-solving skills
High-level strategic thinking and efficiency planning; ability to meet goals and objectives in a timely manner
Highly effective verbal and written communication skills
Capable of working independently and as part of a team
Familiarity with the Jewish philanthropic landscape in North America and in the NY & DC areas specifically
Passion for the mission of the Shalom Hartman Institute
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and donor management software; Salesforce experience a plus
Ability to travel regularly between NY and DC as well as staff occasional evening and weekend programs
