This Opportunity WSP is currently initiating a search for an Early Career Mine Waste Engineer to join our Phoenix, AZ office to support our US Mine Waste Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges. In this role you will have the opportunity to work as a part of an international team on challenging mining, heavy civil, and geotechnical projects.
Takes part in providing local geotechnical engineering assistance for the design, development, and construction of infrastructure projects and systems in the public and private sector. Tasks may include basic assistance with the research, design, analysis, concept development, and construction of roads, buildings, tunnels, dams, canals, levees, bridges, water supply systems, underground storage, and sewage treatment. Generates accurate and concise documentation regarding assigned aspects of the project. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.
Your Impact By Working Within Our Mine Waste Team On Civil And Geotechnical Engineering Projects For The Mining Industry, You Can Expect To
Perform engineering tasks such as:
Geotechnical field investigations;
Site and material characterization;
Design of facilities including grading, storage capacity, and construction quantity evaluations;
Slope stability, seepage, consolidation, liner system, and deformation analyses to support facility designs;
Surface water management analysis and facility designs; and
Construction quality assurance.
Prepare portions of technical reports that document field and laboratory investigations, engineering analyses, and facility designs.
Assist with the preparation of project design packages including technical drawings, specifications, project schedules, and cost estimates.
Perform domestic and international (potentially based on interest) field assignments, such as geotechnical investigations and construction monitoring.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Geological Engineering, or closely related discipline.
0 to 1 years of relevant post education experience.
Strong analytical skills including the ability to complete engineering calculations and analyses.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work both independently and on teams.
Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
Comfortable working in remote settings.
Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (i.e., AutoCAD and Civil 3D).
An active focus on health and safety for themselves and others.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% (domestic, nationally, and/or internationally) of the calendar year for field work and meetings with clients.
Preferred Qualifications
A Master's Degree in Civil, Geological, or Geotechnical Engineering, or closely related discipline.
Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific engineering discipline.
A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
