Position Overview Kiewit Nuclear Solutions is seeking an Assistant Project Engineer to join our Engineering and Operations Team that is focused on the carbon-free technologies such as Small Modular Reactors. The Assistant Project Engineer in this position must have an aptitude for practical engineering, a willingness to immerse one's self in the position and rapidly learn the business, ability to work with little supervision, have strong leadership skills, and be willing to travel periodically. As an EPC Assistant Project Engineer, you will be responsible for the administrative and technical aspects of constructing a project, assisting in managing a team of field and cost engineers. Location The position is located in Idaho Falls, ID.
Responsibilities
Perform integrated engineering processes to fulfill project requirements and achieve target dates.
Author and review designs, specifications, analyses, and drawings in compliance with engineering principles and applicable standards.
Prepare and review design concept drawings for equipment using input from various technical disciplines.
Recognizes, defines, and resolves problems within assigned area.
With regard to that portion of the work assigned, develop complete understanding of contract plans and specifications.
Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost saving measures that arise or that may be encountered. Take corrective actions as needed.
Inspect subordinates' work for compliance with the contract plans and specifications, point out deficiencies and explain and take any corrective action needed.
Develop and maintain the project master schedule using appropriate techniques and scheduling software with input from other project management personnel.
Manage document control; receive and log in new issue drawings and other contract documents; maintain document control log.
Compliance with strict quality assurance standards and on time delivery
Travel (less than 20% of time)
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited, four-year university.
Undergraduate degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering or equivalent
3-5+ years' work experience in construction or engineering
Knowledge, application and understanding of ASME Codes is desired.
Excellent attention to detail and capability for producing error-free documents.
Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Knowledge of engineering design practices and principles (e.g. interference checks, tolerance stack-ups, fits, GD&T)
Experience with using industry codes to develop equipment design.
Experience working with engineers and fabricators to develop designs and drawings
Experience in the preparation of equipment sizing calculations, P&ID, PFD, and General Arrangement drawings for skid mounted or permanent equipment packages.
