Job Overview:
The Sr. Counsel - Privacy and AI is responsible for providing legal guidance supporting the Global Privacy Program, seeking to continuously improve and make the Global Privacy Program more effective across all Company locations. This position will be based in the U.S. (Houston). The Sr. Counsel - Privacy and AI will provide legal advice and strategic guidance to all business segments and will report to the Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
Provide day-to-day legal guidance on global privacy, data protection, artificial intelligence (AI), IP, and cyber security related matters
Expertise in U.S., EU, and U.K. privacy and data protection laws, directives, and other relevant regulations, including cybersecurity regulations
Preferred experience with Chinese, Indian, and Brazilian data protection regulations
Guide continuous improvement in Global Privacy Program, including governance related to machine learning and AI
Develop and/or update privacy notices, policies, and procedures, and conduct related training for internal stakeholders
Provide support for of privacy-related commercial term negotiation with third parties
Advise on data processing agreements, data subject access requests, data transfer agreements, and data privacy impact assessments
Partner with internal stakeholders to identify privacy and data security requirements and implement remediation
Monitor regulatory changes that impact the Company's business and implement updates Global Privacy Program
Work with IT, HR, and business line teams to continuously improve and implement global privacy and standards, including those stemming from new and emerging AI-related laws
Provide data privacy support for internal investigations, internal audits, and regulatory filings
Essential Qualifications and Education:
5+ years' experience working in an in-house legal department (directly or as a secondee) or law firm with substantial experience in data privacy, data protection, AI, and cybersecurity laws
Experiencing developing and enhancing global privacy programs
Strong drafting, presentation, and communication skills
J.D. degree from ABA accredited law school and active membership in a U.S. state bar or qualified to practice in the U.K.
Experience partnering with IT, Engineering, and HR functions
