The Materials Manager will collaborate with the Plant Manager to oversee material management, transportation, and inventory operations for the plant. The role focuses on achieving monthly goals, analyzing performance metrics, and managing the department efficiently and cost-effectively, with a strong emphasis on material handling and supplier relations.
Primary Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain MRP systems, procedures, and documentation to control supplier releases, shipments, inventory, and customer shipments.
Supervise and ensure accurate materials record-keeping and monitor supplier performance to meet quality and delivery standards.
Oversee materials movement, including logistics and cost management, such as premium freight recovery.
Maintain and update Bill of Materials, manage inventory levels, and minimize obsolescence.
Monitor and foster supplier relationships, including delivery performance and cost-saving opportunities.
Lead safety initiatives, ensure team compliance with material handling standards, and review safety practices for storage and racking.
Implement environmental and safety audits, participate in Health, Safety, and Environmental investigations, and support the plant's safety and resource conservation goals.
Set and manage cost-reduction goals related to packaging, material handling, and freight modes.
Qualifications:
5-10 years of experience in Materials Management, particularly with Material Requirement Planning (MRP) or equivalent.
Strong experience in manufacturing and JIT (Just-In-Time) Automotive Sequencing.
Proven experience managing both salaried and hourly employees.
Required Education:
Bachelor's degree in Materials Management or a related field, or equivalent experience.
