As a Senior Staff Accountant in the Client Accounting Services (CAS) department, you will play a vital role in providing comprehensive accounting support to our clients. You will lead and review the work of accounting professionals to ensure accurate financial records and timely reporting, helping our clients make informed business decisions. This is a full-time, hybrid position. Our office is located at 8000 IH-10 West, Suite 1100, San Antonio, TX 78230.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, in accordance with accounting standards and client requirements.
Maintain general ledger accounts and ensure transactions are properly recorded and classified.
Participate in client pre-engagement planning and follow-up meetings.
Complete month-end and year-end closing processes; including reconciling accounts, reviewing the general ledger, and preparing adjusting journal entries and financial reports.
Ensure compliance with accounting principles, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
Perform complex monthly bank, credit card, brokerage, balance sheet, and loan reconciliations to verify transactions and identify and resolve discrepancies.
Support payroll processing activities, including calculating employee hours, preparing payroll tax filings, and issuing paychecks. Ensure exempt hourly pay variances are accurate.
Calculate and prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual sales tax filings.
Assist clients with budgets and forecasting.
Consult on internal control improvements and evaluate revenue and expenditure trends and variances.
Set up QuickBooks and other financial system applications for clients; including creating chart of accounts, data migration, and entering opening balances.
Perform financial statement compilations.
Review equity and partnership accounts to ensure accuracy and identify any journal entry adjustments needed.
Complete general accounting procedures including, fixed assets, inventory, and intercompany accounting.
Review client's bookkeeping to identify and resolve issues/errors.
Mentor and assist in training and development of staff accountants.
Assist clients with unclaimed property filings.
Communicate effectively with clients to gather financial information, address inquiries, and provide support as needed.
Assist with other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the 2 years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of the degree.
Minimum 2 years of experience in general ledger accounting.
High-level of proficiency in QuickBooks preferred.
Intermediate level of proficiency in Excel.
Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
