What You'll Do:

Are you a passionate leader with a knack for inspiring teams and driving impactful development initiatives? The Salvation Army is seeking an Executive Director of Development to spearhead our efforts across the Wisconsin and Upper Michigan (WUM) Division. In this dynamic role, you'll lead a dedicated team in achieving our annual budget contributions and building meaningful relationships within our community. Your vision will help shape strategic and operational plans in Fundraising, Marketing, and Communications, all while advancing our philanthropic mission.

As the Executive Director of Development, you'll:
  • Lead with Purpose: Inspire and guide our Development Department, overseeing all functions related to fundraising, marketing, and volunteer services. Your leadership will create an environment where team members thrive and contribute to our mission.
  • Strategize for Success: Collaborate with divisional leadership to develop and implement strategic plans that align with our goals. Your innovative thinking will drive our community relations and fundraising efforts.
  • Be a Key Advocate: Represent The Salvation Army in various forums, fostering strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Your voice will resonate across the division and beyond as you share our mission.
  • Empower Teams: Provide fundraising/public relations counsel to divisional corps officers, department leaders, and appropriate others regarding capital and annual campaigns, feasibility studies, board development, special events, direct mail, strategic planning and donor relations including cultivation and recognition activities.
  • Drive Results: Oversee fundraising initiatives, set ambitious targets, and monitor progress. Your strategic insights will ensure we meet and exceed our financial and marketing objectives.
  • Cultivate Donor Relationships: Manage a portfolio of major donors and prospects, actively engaging them in our mission and recognizing their contributions.
  • Fiscal Management: With a strong financial acumen, manage annual budgets for the Division's entire Development Department; oversees preparation of annual budgets for each area of Development, regularly monitoring budget revenues.

Who You Are:

We're looking for someone who embodies the following:
  • Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in non-profit management, fundraising, marketing, business administrator, or a related field. An advanced degree and relevant certifications (like CFRE or AFE) will give you an edge. We may consider a combination of education and experience that provides the requisite knowledge and abilities to successfully lead and manage a Development Department and effectively engage in fundraising activities at a Divisional level.
  • Experience Counts: You have at least five years of successful leadership in development within a non-profit environment, especially in fundraising areas such as major gifts, planned giving, and capital campaigns.
  • Desire for Knowledge: Post graduate courses in fundraising and management skills such as planning, goal setting, leadership, community is preferred.
  • Strong Leadership Skills: You're adept at managing diverse teams and projects, possess an ability to attract and retain top talent, adapting your leadership style to inspire and motivate others while staying true to our mission.
  • Communication Pro: You excel in building relationships and communicating effectively with various stakeholders, from donors to community members, all while conveying our mission's importance.
  • Organizational Proficiency: You thrive in a fast-paced environment, juggling multiple priorities and managing complex projects with ease.

Additional Details:
  • Travel: Expect some travel within the community and across the Division as needed.
  • Background Check: Candidates must pass TSA's background check and driver's qualification.
