Backcountry is seeking an experienced and passionate Senior Vice President of Merchandising to lead our product strategy and drive brand growth. As a key member of our executive team, you will oversee the development and execution of global merchandising strategies for Backcountry's diverse portfolio of outdoor gear and apparel.
This position will report into the CEO.

Develop and execute comprehensive merchandising strategies that align with Backcountry's mission to connect people with their passions through premium outdoor gear and apparel
Lead the product assortment planning process, ensuring a balanced and profitable mix that meets customer needs and supports business objectives
Collaborate closely with design, product development, and marketing teams to create cohesive product lines that resonate with our target audience
Analyze market trends, consumer behavior, and competitor activities to identify opportunities for growth and innovation
Oversee buying and sourcing functions, including vendor relationships, contract negotiations, and supply chain optimization
Monitor product performance, conduct regular financial reviews, and make data-driven decisions to maximize sales and profitability
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing merchandising team, fostering a culture of innovation and customer obsession
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless execution of merchandising strategies across all channels, including e-commerce and retail stores
What you bring to the role:
Bachelor's degree in Merchandising, Business, or a related field; MBA preferred
10+ years of progressive experience in merchandising, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role, preferably in the outdoor or sports industry
Proven track record of developing and executing successful merchandising strategies that drive sales and profitability
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions
Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams
Deep understanding of the outdoor industry, current trends, and consumer preferences
Experience in both e-commerce and brick-and-mortar retail environments
Passion for outdoor activities and a personal connection to Backcountry's mission
