With exciting projects for clients like the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), this professional engineering firm acts as the Construction Manager on high-impact government projects. Due to recent growth, they are looking for a Senior-level Project Manager/Project Lead to join the business who has the potential to grow into an Operations/Business Development Manager in the future.

Position Overview:

Our client is seeking an experienced, business-minded Senior Project Manager with a deep understanding of federal contracting, P&L management, and client relations to oversee two large-scale federal projects. This is an ideal role for a mid-career professional with 15+ years of experience in project management-ideally with a DC-based engineering firm. Although the role requires a baseline level of technical understanding, they are really seeking someone who can oversee the more technical team memberson-site and who is more focused on the profitability, business-oriented, and client side of the projects. This position requires a proactive, strategic thinker who can provide high-level oversight without needing to get into technical details.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Project Oversight: Lead and manage major federal projects, ensuring project profitability and deliverables are met.
  • Client Relations: Serve as the client-facing contact, representing the company's interests and fostering strong, ongoing client relationships.
  • Strategic Leadership: Act as the eyes and ears of the Vice President, keeping her informed of project status, profitability, and overall progress.
  • Site Management Coordination: Oversee on-site owner's representatives, ensuring they meet project deliverables and quality standards.
  • Profit & Loss Management: Maintain a focus on the financial health of projects, including budget, pricing, and profitability metrics.
  • Growth Potential: Get integrated into the senior leadership team with a view towards succession into Operations Management as current leaders approach retirement.

Qualifications:
  • Experience: Minimum 10-15 years of project management experience, ideally from an engineering firm
  • Federal Contracting Knowledge: Familiar with federal contracting requirements and processes.
  • Financial Acumen: Proven experience with P&L oversight and budget management.
  • Client-Focused: Skilled in client management with strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Strategic Oversight: Able to keep projects aligned with business objectives without micromanaging technical aspects.
