What you can expect as a Development Officer, Major Gifts

As our Development Officer, Major Gifts, you will play a key role in engaging and inspiring our most dedicated supporters. You will manage and grow a portfolio of major donors, building relationships that will drive significant financial support for Perkins' mission. You'll partner closely with program and leadership teams to connect donors with the impact they're making through their contributions, helping to elevate Perkins' visibility and reach.

We'd love to talk with you if you have many of the following:
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with a portfolio of high-capacity donors, foundations, and prospects, focusing on gifts of $25,000 and above.
  • Develop and execute personalized engagement and solicitation strategies to deepen each donor's connection to Perkins' mission, working toward multi-year commitments.
  • Partner with program, marketing, and leadership teams to craft compelling cases for support and develop opportunities for donor involvement.
  • Identify and qualify new major gift prospects through research and outreach, increasing the pipeline of supporters for Perkins' priority programs.
  • Track progress against fundraising goals, prepare reports on donor activity, and analyze trends to inform strategies and decision-making.
  • Effectively communicate Perkins' impact through written proposals, presentations, and conversations that resonate with donors' values and interests.

Education/Experience:
  • 5+ years of experience in major gift fundraising, nonprofit development with a track record of successfully closing five- and six-figure gifts, international fundraising a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly, persuasively, and empathetically.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with donors, colleagues, and leadership, fostering a sense of shared mission.
  • Experience working cross-functionally to align goals, identify new opportunities, and create holistic donor engagement plans.
  • Proficiency in donor databases (experience with Salesforce preferred)
