Our client, a prestige beauty brand, is hiring a Director, Packaging Development to join their team in NYC on a hybrid schedule. Candidates must be comfortable commuting to the office 2-3 days a week with the understanding that frequency can change based on the needs of the business. Candidates must also be able to travel 10% - 20% of the time for conferences, supplier meetings, etc.
Job Duties Include:
Manage department budget, ensuring efficient resource allocation
Partner with procurement to develop and maintain tooling budget
Develop and execute staffing plans to support department goals
Lead performance management efforts, providing mentorship, guidance, and development opportunities
Develop and implement processes and procedures in the packaging department to enhance the overall function
Identify opportunities to outsource for agility, including utilizing vendor development capabilities
Foster a collaborative and innovative working environment
Lead end-to-end design, testing, and validation of new packaging systems
Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities through material selection, packaging standardization, and continuous improvements
Support direct reports in problem solving and troubleshooting technical challenges
Drive the packaging innovation agenda by exploring new materials, technologies, processes, etc.
Identify solutions to meet aggressive timelines, including turnkey and stock solutions, in additional to custom tooling
Partner to identify and validate new contract manufacturing partners
Support new component vendor identification and validation to ensure supply chain agility
Job Qualifications Include:
10+ years of experience in packaging development in the beauty and/or CPG industry
5+ years in a leadership role with direct reports
Must have overseen a ream of 4 or more
Skincare, Fragrance, and OTC experience preferred
Bachelor's degree in Package Engineering required
Advanced degree is a plus
Proven track record of successful leadership at the department level
Knowledge of the intersection between package engineering and package design
Ability to clearly communicate technical information in non-technical teams
Experience in effectively working with contract manufacturers and component vendors
Exceptional communication and presentation skills
Some travel required
Salary: $180k - $210k annually + bonus
