Position Summary: The Lead Generator Mechanic III will operate under the Power Plant Supervisor, taking ownership of the generator fleet ranging from 15 kW to 2 MW. This role involves maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting Genset systems, including fuel, cooling, and control components, as well as diesel and multi-fuel engines. Responsibilities include managing emergency outages, performing rebuilds and overhauls, and assisting with daily operations such as synchronizing gensets and conducting generator readings. The position requires a Secret Security Clearance, a valid driver's license, and compliance with AFCENT medical guidelines. Ideal candidates will have 6-10 years of relevant experience, preferably with certifications in Cummins diesel mechanics and generator controls.
Scope/Responsibilities:
Serve under the Power Plant Supervisor; take ownership of Power Plant generator fleet
Maintain, repair, operate, troubleshoot Genset systems (fuel, induction, cooling, controls, exhaust, engine internal & peripheral) ranging from 15Kw to 2Mw
Take corrective actions to correct emergency/unscheduled outages/load changes
Troubleshoot/repair/rebuild/overhaul Gensets, powered support systems, vehicles, and other components (e.g., alternators, gears, compressors, and hydraulic, pneumatic, electric components (12/24VDC)).
Assist in the control and distribution of the mechanical and electrical makeup and operation of powered support systems such as those described above.
Troubleshoot and repair diesel, gasoline, and/or multi-fuel engines.
Assist to isolate generator(s) and bypass fault to maintain service or take actions to shed low priority loads when full service cannot be maintained
Assist with daily Power plant or Spot Gen operations to include bringing online/offline gensets, synchronizing/paralleling gensets, taking hourly generator readings, fueling in power plant environment, electrical distribution installation/maintenance, facility maintenance, housekeeping, etc.
Assist Prime Contractor with procurement/materials staff with acquiring repair parts/consumables.
Attend/deliver daily Safety meetings/stand downs IAW with policies
Attend formal OEM specific genset and/or controls training
Ensure power generator staff is performing service/maintenance/repairs IAW U.S. Military, Prime Contractor, Host Nation, and Environmental/Hazmat policies and procedures
Run oil samples/analysis and take appropriate actions
REQUIREMENTS:
6-10 years as Lead Generator Mech III.
Must possess a Secret Security Clearance and US Passport prior to deployment.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
Must satisfy the AFCENT Force Health Protection Guidance medical requirements for AFCENT prior to OCONUS mobilization, must be able to maintain a Medically Qualified (MQ) rating on an annual basis.
Standard Diesel generators, Controls to include genset synchronizing and paralleling, genset communication/monitoring systems such as PULSE SCADA and Switchgear.
Experience in providing prime power O&M Services to clients
Must rescue an injured victim from an electrical conductor
Highly Desired Qualifications:
Medium to large scale operation, maintenance and complete overhaul of prime power diesel gensets (50-60 liter engines).
Cummins Mech III Mechanic Certification or equivalent.
Cummins Certification for KTA50 engines and PCC3300 controllers or equivalent.
