Job Title: Senior Applications Engineer Location: On-site in North Austin, TX (5 days a week, occasional Saturdays)
Job Summary: A leading global manufacturer specializing in high-quality heavy machinery and work platforms is seeking a Senior Applications Engineer. This role focuses on mechanical integration, mobile heavy machinery applications, and hydraulics, ensuring compliance with transportation regulations. The position involves conducting weight analysis studies, inspecting machinery chassis, and providing comprehensive 2D and 3D layouts of mechanical systems for heavy equipment. The engineer will also engage in design for manufacturability and contribute to the company's operational excellence transformation.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct thorough inspections of chassis upon receipt, ensuring compatibility with heavy machinery systems.
Assess machinery chassis suitability for sales, considering factors like weight distribution and axle loads.
Provide pre-sale chassis layouts in 2D and 3D as requested by the sales and engineering team.
Solicit chassis layout information from customers and sales teams, ensuring alignment with customer needs and over-the-road laws.
Maintain schedules and deliver shop layouts 45 days ahead of machinery completion and shipment.
Verify axle weights comply with over-the-road laws and address weight distribution concerns.
Uphold company policies and procedures and encourage accountability throughout the organization.
Requirements
Minimum of a two-year degree in drafting/mechanical design technology or related field.
Minimum of five years' experience in a manufacturing environment.
Proficient in CAD software such as DraftSite and SolidWorks.
Strong drafting skills for creating layouts and schematics related to mobile heavy machinery integration.
Exceptional problem-solving skills for mobile heavy machinery compatibility and hydraulics issues.
Experience in Lean manufacturing tools and process improvement.
Proficient in fabrication, welding, and manufacturing assembly.
In-depth mechanical knowledge of vehicles and heavy equipment, especially chassis and hydraulics.
Thorough understanding of hydraulics and their application in heavy equipment.
Ability to interpret engineering calculations for weight distribution and axle loads.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Experience with ERP systems and creating Bill of Materials (BOMs), preferably with Epicor.

Familiarity with engineering drafting standards and practices.
Capability to read, analyze, and interpret technical information.
Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Physical ability to sit, talk, hear, and occasionally walk in a shop environment, lift 10 pounds, and follow PPE guidelines.
Work Environment
Office setting with occasional time in a shop environment.
Climate-controlled office, with periodic travel required for tradeshows and customer meetings.
Interaction with various suppliers and tracking of equipment from multiple suppliers in North America is required.
