Essential Duties And Responsibilities

The Quality Engineer (Plan/Spec Review) can be based out of any Flintco office and will support the Quality Assurance Manager (Constructability Review Program) in the execution of quality services rendered during the front-end planning phases of the project lifecycle - including in the performance of design/specification reviews, existing condition evaluations, and preliminary risk assessments.

  • Performs in-house review of project-level plans and specifications at critical design releases, identifying inconsistencies, ambiguities, conflicts, errors, and omissions to reduce the number of RFIs and Change Orders occurring later in the project.
  • Prepares comprehensive constructability review of pre-bid construction documents
  • Ensures documents are coordinated between design disciplines
  • Presents constructability findings in a transparent setting to Flintco Operations team and tracks potential constructability issues to completion.
  • In collaboration with Flintco Operations and Construction Support Service, looks for opportunities to drive improvement within the process by using Virtual Design and Construction (VDC), Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) and any other process enhancements
  • Makes value engineering recommendations at the outset of the design
  • Works with the preconstruction team and contractors through cost analysis exercises which include value engineering options, maintenance costs, and total costs of ownership for the major capital project portfolio
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge/Skills/Ability
  • 5+ years of experience in architectural engineering and/or construction management, supporting front-end planning construction field execution.
  • Applied knowledge of architectural design review processes and facility condition assessment processes for scopes of work performed by various trades/disciplines.
  • Working knowledge of design/construction documentation, modeling, and work management systems, including Procore, Bluebeam Revu, AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks.
  • Experience ensuring compliance with the following governance authorities, technical affiliations, and codes/standards: IBC, ANSI, ACI, AISC, PCI, IEEE, NEC, ASME, ASHRAE, NSPC, IECC, LEED, and/or ISO-9001.
  • Ability and expectation to spend 90-100% of time directly supporting Flintco Operations projects, and up to 10% of time performing administrative tasks supporting Flintco's Quality program and ongoing development initiatives.
  • Able to work independently, gathering and defining work plans and applying appropriate problem-solving methods when necessary.
  • Able to partner effectively with internal and external peers, management teams, and customers when planning and executing scopes of work.
  • Able to communicate effectively with peers, supervisors, and managers on issues, trends, and assignments.
  • Follows and enforces Safety Rules and Practices.
  • Stop work, if necessary, to resolve matters that affect safety, quality, and/or inhibit the logical progress of work.
Education
A.A.S. Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Technology, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
