Systems Engineer - Data Center Operations The Systems Engineer will perform complex analytical and administrative tasks for VMware, Azure, and Terraform, playing a key role in implementing, maintaining, monitoring, and protecting the organization's infrastructure. This position requires the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Build, configure, and maintain VMware vSphere Private Cloud environments, including ESX, NSX, and vCenter across multiple geographically dispersed data centers.
Manage environments for monitoring and replication, including VROPS, VRM, and SRM, to support disaster recovery operations.
Provide technical support for engineering and managing Azure cloud infrastructure, ensuring it is scalable, secure, and high-performing, while adhering to organizational standards and processes.
Proactively monitor the infrastructure to ensure availability and performance.
Continuously improve infrastructure automation processes with Terraform, including engineering, testing, and maintaining the Terraform environment end to end.
Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for environments to ensure clarity and understanding for team members and stakeholders, including validation testing.
Support the planning and design of VMware environment sizing and architecture.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to engineer and implement hybrid, cloud-native, and on-premises solutions that meet organizational needs.
Provide final-tier On-Call support.
Build, configure, and maintain Windows servers.
Configure, rack, cable, and maintain data center hardware.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Technical Skills:
Minimum of 5 years of experience supporting VMware environments, Azure cloud infrastructure, and Terraform in both Azure and on-premises environments.
Expert-level knowledge of VMware VCenter, ESX, NSX, SRM, VRM, VROPS, Azure, and Terraform.
Strong experience supporting Azure Cloud and Microsoft Windows Server OS.
Ability to prioritize workloads, troubleshoot problems, and manage tasks effectively while maintaining quality under pressure.
Strong understanding of networking infrastructure (LAN, WAN, VPN) and protocols (TCP/IP, FCOE).
In-depth knowledge of enterprise-class storage and hardware protocols and fabrics.
Experience with formal patch management and change control systems.
Familiarity with ITIL framework.
Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to design new infrastructure architecture iterations.
Willingness to perform On-Call duties and responsibilities.
Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology (or a related field) is a plus.
