Position: VP of Cybersecurity & Privacy

Location: the company standard is 4 days per week in the office in Boulder, Colorado.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

As the VP of Security & Privacy, In a hands-on and leadership capacity, you will lead the development and execution of a comprehensive information security strategy across the organization and its subsidiaries. In this role, you will be working as a member of a small but mighty team establishing strategic and operational objectives, defining policies, and overseeing key privacy and cybersecurity initiatives. This is a unique opportunity to build a robust and scalable security practice at a fast-growing fintech company with a focus on AI. This is a hands-on role and will continue to be even as the opportunity for advancement to a CISO title and commensurate increase in compensation exist.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
  • Assess and Enhance Security Infrastructure: Understand and improve data structures across the organization and subsidiaries to assess and enhance security measures.
  • AI and Security Governance and Compliance: Focus on AI model compliance, data privacy, model monitoring, and ethical use in financial applications. Advise the Executive Leadership Team and the Board on cybersecurity trends and risks.
  • AI-Related Privacy and Security Initiatives: Focus on AI model compliance, data privacy, model monitoring, and ethical use in financial applications.
  • Establish Cybersecurity Counsel: Define and lead initiatives across areas such as regulatory compliance, data protection policies, incident response, risk assessment, employee training, and vendor management.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Build genuine and lasting relationships with teams across Legal, Product, and Engineering to integrate security protocols across the organization. Highly responsive support for sales-related requests such as RFPs and DDQs.
  • Cyber Insurance and Risk Management: Evaluate and manage cyber insurance needs and ensure comprehensive coverage.

WHO YOU ARE:
  • Experience: 10+ years in consumer data security, with at least 5 years leading information security or data privacy initiatives. Deep understanding of evolving AI tools, best practices, and governance. Ability to thrive in a demanding, fast-paced environment. Previous Startup experience is a plus.
  • Specific experience: Technical audit requirements, including SOC2, SOX, PCI, and more. There is a compliance specialist onboard but you will still own this responsibility. Knowledge of third-party Security standards. Ensure ongoing compliance with Data Privacy legislation, including Consumer Privacy Acts, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and similar.
  • Educational Background: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields.
  • Attributes: Highly adaptable, proactive problem-solver with excellent communication skills. Strong team player. Authentic, kind, and direct communication skills.
  • Location: Local to the Denver/Boulder area is preferred. Relocation is an option for the ideal candidate.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
  • Salary Range: $200,000 - $250,000 plus a strong equity component as part of the core team, with actual pay determined based on experience.
