THE ROLE
As a Data Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of managing and optimizing the firm's data architecture to support its machine learning pipelines and financial analysis. You'll take ownership of building and optimizing ETL pipelines, integrating new data sets, and ensuring high performance for both on-premise and cloud systems. In this high-impact, hands-on role, you'll also partner on machine learning projects and ensure best practices in data governance and security.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Database Management: Oversee database architecture, permissions, and security, ensuring systems are optimized and secure.
ETL Pipelines: Build and optimize ETL pipelines, integrating new data sets to support machine learning initiatives.
dbt & SQLmesh: Migrate existing processes to dbt and/or SQLmesh to modernize and streamline data transformations.
Change Data Capture (CDC): Implement and optimize CDC for high-priority tasks.
Data Governance: Ensure adherence to best practices in data governance and secure data access management.
Collaboration on ML Projects: Partner with other firms and internal teams on machine learning initiatives, adapting projects as needed.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
3+ years of hands-on experience with Python and PostgreSQL.
Expertise in building and optimizing ETL pipelines.
Strong understanding of database architecture, performance tuning, and security best practices.
Proficiency with dbt, SQLmesh, or similar data transformation tools.
Experience with Change Data Capture (CDC) and/or NoSQL databases like Cassandra is a plus.
A background in finance or economics is a bonus but not required.
