Reporting to the Executive Director, the Program Director will be responsible for the local implementation and delivery of the National Kidney Foundation’s (NKF) lead signature programs to patients and those at risk for kidney disease. He/she will lead the pursuit of new opportunities, manage and cultivate relationships, and drive involvement of accounts to achieve NKF’s mission and income efforts.
The Program Director collaborates with nephrology groups, hospitals, and other healthcare providers to increase market penetration, and engagement of their organizations. Ensures goal achievement through the effective leadership and management of diverse staff, and the engagement and mobilization of volunteers. Responsible for overseeing the relationship management of targeted hospital systems, institutions, and community partners and other key systems for the western Pennsylvania and West Virginia markets.
The Program Director will work closely with the Executive Director and Community Outreach Coordinator to successfully implement and achieve program goals. NKF programs include, but are not limited to: CKDinform, continuing medical education on kidney disease for primary care providers; The Big Ask/The Big Give, living donor advocate program; World Kidney Day/National Kidney Month, kidney health awareness campaign; KEEP Healthy, free public health screening program; Your Kidneys and You, public health education; Current and new National and Regional programs.
The Program Director will also work in collaboration with development staff on the incorporation of program information into sponsorship materials and ensure mission is being communicated effectively throughout NKF’s local fundraising eve
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Serves as relationship manager with responsibility for prospect research, recruitment, cultivation, and retention of targeted priority healthcare providers and community organizations while achieving program and income goals as determined for the market.
Aligns healthcare provider’s priorities with NKF programs to achieve performance metrics and Foundation’s income goals.
Provides supervisory support to the Community Outreach Coordinator.
Work in collaboration with the Executive Director and Community Outreach Coordinator to secure funding by preparing and submitting grants for program funding.
Execute and manage all logistics related to the Patient Resource Center at the Pittsburgh Kidney Walk; networking symposiums for medical professionals; professional education meetings, Grand Rounds in hospital settings and/or education sessions.
Leverages volunteers as door openers and relationship builders and develops appropriate volunteer engagement and support to advance program priorities.
Makes introductions and recommendations for beneficial alliances and partnership opportunities for the Foundation and among our healthcare providers and community partners.
Collaborates with local team to maximize accounts to meet shared goals; engages accounts in local event participation, team captains, sponsorships, and fundraising.
Develop, execute and coordinate activities to strengthen “World Kidney Day,” public education campaign and other public awareness activities.
Enhance minority outreach and public awareness activities.
Assists with the local program budget.
Manage, recruit and oversee the local Medical Advisory and Multicultural Task Force.
Performs additional duties, as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Master’s in health-related or social services field preferred.
Minimum three years of experience in community outreach and/or public education programs with proven background in executive relationship development.
Experience working for a non-profit agency preferred.
Able to cultivate relationships with health systems to create a sense of urgency around Chronic Kidney Disease as a major health problem.
Ability to represent the Foundation effectively and professionally to hospital health systems, related institutions and community leaders.
Able to comprehend basic renal issues quickly and work within a complex organizational structure.
Strong experience with community-based program planning and implementation including work with disparate populations and diverse constituents.
Experience in grant proposal writing and knowledge of product marketing.
Outcome driven with ability to respond to changing circumstances and priorities.
Excellent interpersonal, time-management, organizational and presentation skills.
Must be assertive, confident and project a positive presence.
Fluent in Microsoft Word applications.
Flexible for business travel, including the ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
WORKING CONDITIONS, EQUIPMENT USED AND SPECIAL INFORMATION
Must have unimpeachable integrity and trustworthiness while possessing a high degree of tact, discretion and professionalism. Maintains effectiveness under pressure. Verbal and written communication skills will be used on a daily basis. Competency in use of a multiple-line telephone, personal computer, fax machine, photocopier and other standard office equipment. Ability to lift and transport event supplies and equipment weighing up to 25 lbs.
This position is based in Pittsburgh, PA and requires weekend/evening work and business trips annually. Business travel throughout the region is required. Must have a valid driver’s license.
