The biological sciences intern will work on laboratory-based projects under the guidance of Zoetis scientists within the Swine Biologics team. The intern will gain technical experience with immunological assays, cell culture, flow cytometry and other cell-based assays.
Internship Job Duties:
Design and implement immunological assays (ELISA, IFA, etc.)
Dilute and handle serum samples, both manually and with automation.
Create and run assays for detection of antibodies and antigens within clinical samples.
Analyze and interpret generated results.
Maintain mammalian cell culture.
Work under sterile conditions in a biological safety hood to passage cells and formulate cell culture growth media.
Use a light microscope to inspect cells and assess their growth and health.
Passage cells into appropriate plates for use in cell-based assays.
Analyze cellular samples using flow cytometry.
Prepare samples using fixation, centrifugation, and fluorescent dyes.
Analyze cells for both extra and intracellular markers using flow cytometry.
Interpret results using analysis software.
Maintain a detailed and accurate lab notebook to record experimental results.
Summarize project at an end of the summer intern poster session.

Willingness to work in a laboratory environment with other scientists.
Currently working toward a B.A. or B.S degree in biological sciences or related discipline.
The following hourly pay rates reflect the anticipated base pay for this position:
If the selected candidate is a student pursuing an Associate-level degree: $16.00 per hour
If the selected candidate is a student pursuing an Undergraduate-level degree: $20.00 per hour
If the selected candidate is a student pursing a Graduate-level degree: $32.50 per hour
If the selected candidate is a student pursuing a Doctorate-level degree: $36.00 per hour
The following hourly pay rates reflect the anticipated base pay for this position if a selected candidate were to be located in California, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Illinois (Chicago area), Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Washington (Seattle area):
