I. General Summary


Under the general direction of the Director of Nursing for Perioperative Serices will be responsible for managing the Surgical Support and equipment technicians in the Trauma Operating Room (TOR), the General Operating Room (GOR) and Endoscopy Labs located on 7 North. Will be responsible for maintaining, placing work orders and ordering equipment when necessary. Will also provide support to the managers of the TOR and GOR for any ongoing and new projects within the operating rooms.


II. Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Oversees and is responsible for the assigned Surgical Support Technicians (SST) and Equipment Technician members to include performance appraisals, mentoring, and coaching.

  • This role will have a provide input into the development of continuing education initiatives and onboarding educational and orientation programs.

  • Provides overall supervision, training and evaluation in accordance with system and departmental policies and procedures.

  • Interviews and recommends hiring of staff.

  • Conducts annual performance evaluations of assigned staff, recommends disciplinary measures and implements when directed. Serves as a staff resource.

  • Promotes professional development of staff.

  • Ensures policies and procedures are understood and followed.

  • Acts as a liaison with nursing, quality management, applicable hospital departments and other related services or committees.

  • Actively participates in and leads discussion of purchasing needs, quality results and patient feedback, problem solving and development to improve quality of care and service as assigned. Follows up and supports efforts of colleagues to implement improvement action plans.

  • Takes a proactive approach to addressing potential problems with patient management and equipment issues.

  • Collaborates with leadership on long- and short-term planning. Facilitates change within department/unit to meet organizational goals.

  • Creates, implement, and/or lead performance improvement projects.



  • Patient Safety



    Ensures patient safety in the performance of job functions and through participation in hospital, department or unit patient safety initiatives.



  • Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety.




  • Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority.




  • Identifies possible risks in processes, procedures, devices and communicates the same to those in charge.

    Qualifications

    Education and Experience



    1. Current License as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland.


    2. Operating room experience of at least 2 years.


    3. Bachelor's degree required.


    4. CNOR and prior leadership experience preferred.


    5. Basic Life support required.

    Compensation:



    Pay Range: $47.51-$62.93
