The Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Intern position allows for the growth, development, and education of students enrolled in a college of pharmacy. The intern will provide direct patient care activities, while enhancing their clinical knowledge and developing good patient care skills. Additionally, the intern will assist and support the organization's pharmacists in the management of pharmacy health outcome goals. Those goals will be focused on but are not limited to providing support for the Medicare Advantage (MA) program in medication therapy management services, targeted member outreach activities, and closing gaps in care.

Compensation




$22.31 hourly

What you'll do



Under supervision of a pharmacist:


  • Complete telephonic outreach of medication therapy management (MTM).


  • Provide counseling on new and current prescriptions and identify and resolve medication related problems.


  • Perform provider outreach to resolve therapeutic duplication of medications or recommend cost-effective therapeutic alternatives.


  • Provide education, resources, and training on the appropriate use of medications and monitoring devices.


  • Provide education on the importance of medication adherence and understanding of treatment goals.


  • Close gaps in care related to medication adherence, diabetes management, hypertension management, and post-discharge medication reconciliation.


  • Provide support to pharmacy staff on projects, quality improvement efforts, or education sessions as necessary.





What you need



  • Registered Pharmacy Intern with the Kansas Board of Pharmacy.


  • At least 1 year experience working in a pharmacy setting that involves direct patient interactions (retail, hospital, long-term care, etc.).


  • Must have completed at least 1 semester of Therapeutics curriculum.


  • Enrolled in an accredited college or university (School of Pharmacy) as a full-time student.


  • Must be in good standing with the Kansas Board of Pharmacy and School of Pharmacy and must remain in good standing during the duration of employment.





Knowledge/Skills/Abilities



  • Skilled in patient counseling or MTM services.


  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills.


  • Ability to interact positively with patients and staff.


  • Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently.





Physical Requirements



  • Requires the use of a PC up to 80-90% of the day, and the ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
