JOB PURPOSE:


An Electric Powertrain (ePowertrain) includes a power source such as battery and possibly fuel cell, power electronics, and electric drivetrain components combined via controls into an electric powertrain system. As an Engineering Manager in the ePowertrain System team, you will be joining an innovative team on the cutting edge of electrification. The ePowertrain System team is part of the Electrification & Energy Solutions Division and is a full electric powertrain solution partner for all Caterpillar machines. You will be responsible for virtual product development of e-powertrain solutions across multiple NTI/NPI programs and will work with L6 Product Groups, L5 Product Architecting & Strategy team, L5 ePowertrain systems integration team, L5 ePowertrain controls team, and L3-L4 component teams to support their programs with requirements definition, with validation teams to support FMEA based planning, and PPRD to ensure proper validation of advanced ePowertrain components and systems supporting a wide variety of new product development and new technology investigation projects. Your role will be critical to establishing a simulation center of excellence in the ePowertrain system, component & control solutions domain, delivering world-class solutions, and in mentoring and coaching team members.



What you will do:



  • Lead virtual product development of full electric powertrain configurations for a diverse range of machine platforms and collaborate with teams to define and meet targets for deliverables and timing of virtual, laboratory, and testbed demonstrators.
  • Supervise various levels of engineers, technologists, and support personnel in one or more geographic location. The supervision role accounts for up to 50% of this assignment.
  • Coach and facilitate the development of the work group to develop collaborative relationships among themselves, with customers, suppliers, other cross functional groups, and internal customers to ensure goals are achieved.
  • Collaborate with System, Component & Control Technical Leads & Product Architects to develop VPD models that can be leveraged for requirements generation, FMEA analysis, techno-economic architecting analysis, MiL/HiL/PiL/SiL applications & validation studies
  • Coordinate analysis and model development to align with Architecting & Strategy, NTI, and NPI project timelines and facilitate the on-time delivery of VPD solutions
  • Develop ePowertrain system models using software packages such as MATLAB/Simulink/Simscape, Amesim (Simcenter), Ansys Twin Builder, Optislang, HEEDs and/or Dynasty, GT Suite, or equivalent tools.
  • Support maintenance and upkeep of virtual garages and facilitate version control and management of libraries in conjunction with developers
  • Collaborate with process partners and product groups to deliver high quality processes & results




What you have:



Degree Requirement: Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, Energy/Power Systems Engineering or equivalent



Techni cal Excellence: Experienced in design and analysis associated with electric powertrain system/subsystem/component design, simulation and/or control. Ability to develop and provide solutions for significant technical challenges in these areas.
Level Extensive Experience:



  • Product development lifecycle experience, leading a proof-of-concept/concept to production launch on electric drive systems, sub systems and/or components.
  • Experience in 1D simulation for powertrain and/or vehicle simulations.
  • Advises others on the assessment and provision of all technical solutions.
  • Engages appropriate subject matter resources to effectively resolve technical issues.
  • Mentors others to enhance their technical competence and its application to achieve more effective technical solutions.
