The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from: $83,804.80 - $104,756
The Senior Manager of Substation Standards will be responsible for identifying new technologies, justifying, obtaining approval for, scoping, and staffing, aimed at standardizing, determining, and improving the existing libraries and designs related construction, commissioning, maintenance, operation, and renewal of electrical substations for Avangrid Electric Operations.
This role involves managing both internal and external resources, coordinating various initiatives, and providing technical direction and prioritization assessments. Reporting to the Senior Director of Operational Excellence, Standardization processes, and Contract Management in P&T, this person will collaborate closely with managers and representatives from other areas (commissioning, P&C, projects, maintenance, planning, operations, etc.) to identify areas for efficiency and improvements across the existing standards.
Major Roles and Responsibilities:
Leadership and Management: Direct and manage subordinate staff, set group goals and strategic direction, and initiate action plans and assignments to achieve these goals.
Develop business plans with technical justifications and economic impact, seeking executive approval.
Provide technical support, guidance, coaching, and counseling to ensure effective performance, and appraise individual performance.
Develop organizational performance measures, initiate actions to enhance performance, and resiliency, review work processes, systems, procedures, and practices, and direct changes to improve productivity or control costs.
Design and Construction: Coordinate the design and construction of new substations, ensuring all plans meet the utility's standards and needs.
Documentation and Compliance: Maintain detailed records of all substation designs and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
Resource Management: Oversee labor and equipment resources, balancing service quality and efficiency. Set and administer company policies and procedures. Determine staffing needs and obtain approval for resource requirements. Develop and control the department budget. Recommend promotions, personnel changes, budgets, organizational changes, and company policies.
Coordination and Collaboration: Coordinate with Projects, Electric Ops, and other areas of P&T to identify opportunities for efficiency and improvements in the design, construction, commissioning, maintenance, compliance, control and protection, and renewal of electrical substations. Analyze broad technical alternatives or processes and build business cases to seek approval for implementing new long-term solutions.
Technical Support: Provide technical support to the team and the operating and maintenance departments of the companies. Coordinate with other departments, consultants, utilities, regulatory agencies, and government agencies. Represent the companies in technical committees at NYISO, ISO-NE, NPCC, and other regulatory agencies.
Provide technical input and testimony to the Public Utilities Commissions if needed.
This role requires a strong understanding of electrical systems, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work under pressure. It often involves working with high-voltage equipment and requires proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and engineering drawings1.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Technology or similar fields.
5-6 years of working experience in engineering
