Altarum Institute's Applied Research and Analytics Practice Area is seeking a Senior Health Economics and Policy Analyst to join our fast-paced, demanding, but rewarding, consulting environment. We work to improve the health of disenfranchised populations by combining our expertise in public health and health care delivery to address health disparities, improve programs, and build better systems of care through an equity-focused lens. The Senior Analyst will serve as project director and/or task lead for multiple projects within the Applied Research and Analytics practice area within our Population Health Division. Projects may include utilizing claims and survey data to measuring access to health services, assessing the value and economic impacts of investments to improve health and life outcomes, and healthcare policy cost-benefit analysis. You will have the opportunity to use your knowledge of research design, data analysis, statistics, economics, health care and delivery, and program evaluation to generate insights that inform health care solutions. Specific tasks may include literature reviews, data management, statistical analysis, economic modeling, claims data analysis, report and publication writing, and presentation of results to clients and colleagues.
Responsibilities
Designing and leading research projects or tasks using qualitative and quantitative methods
Identifying, acquiring, and analyzing health, health sector, and related economic data from government and other sources to complete project tasks and economic evaluations
Analyzing survey and claims data (commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid) to answer research questions of interest
Conducting statistical analyses to assess the significance of program and policy impacts and assess relationships between health and lifetime outcomes
Create written and oral presentations interpreting data for a variety of audiences including conference presentations, client reports, public facing white papers, and peer-review journal articles
Develop and refine data visualizations to present findings to a wide variety of audiences
Interacting closely with clients and being responsive to client needs
Managing/supervising junior staff
Working on multiple projects and tasks simultaneously
Develop work products from start to finish while maintaining a consistently high degree of accuracy and attention to detail in all tasks
Ensure that deliverables meet project requirements, e.g., analytical type project tasks are executed within budget, scope, and schedule
Manage risks and report status and completion of tasks to clients and stakeholders
Support business development activities through solution design and technical proposal contributions
Qualifications
Master's degree in public health, economics, social science, public policy, or related field
6+ years of relevant work experience
Knowledge of wide range of research methods and processes, including literature reviews, quantitative analysis, qualitative methods, and formal writing
Experience designing and conducting economic and statistical analyses of health care and economic data, including from government sources
Experience analyzing administrative claims data
Technical proficiency in analytical software including Microsoft Excel and one of the following statistical packages: R, STATA, or SAS. Experience with analyses in SQL databases a plus
Ability to demonstrate an exceptionally high level of organization and attention to detail
Experience working within multi-disciplinary teams
Strong organizational and communication skills and the ability to work with others remotely
Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills including ability to organize and articulate findings, prepare and conduct presentations, and facilitate group discussions
Ability to plan, organize, manage, and prioritize work across multiple projects
Experience writing and reviewing substantive sections of project proposals as well as providing input to budgets and other facets of proposals/pursuing new business opportunities through networking and other avenues
