Job Description:
The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is accepting applications for a full-time faculty position at the Associate Professor level in the Tenure stream to join one of its four Divisions. These Divisions of clinical excellence are internationally recognized for outstanding research in basic, clinical, and translational research in cardiovascular disease, surgical approaches, medical device design, heart and lung transplantation, and lung and esophageal surgery and pathologies. Application will be considered from basic, clinical, and translational science researchers will be considered.
Candidates will have an M.D., Ph.D. or equivalent degree(s) and an exceptional track record of research in basic, clinical, or translational science using state-of-the-art approaches. The successful candidate will join faculty positions commensurate with prior training and experience. Competitive salary and resources will be provided commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications, experience, and credentials. Applications will be considered until the position is filled. A research start-up package will be provided, as well as laboratory and office space within the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery laboratories.
Consideration will be given to physician-scientists and candidates with interdisciplinary research programs. Successful candidates at the Assistant Professor level will have a strong research plan for addressing problems related to conditions treated by cardiothoracic surgery and a substantial track record of related research productivity. Favorable consideration will be given to early career investigators with evidence of extramural grant funding. The ideal Associate/Professor Candidate shall have a strong record of impactful scholarship with a national/international reputation for interdisciplinary research applicable to problems impacting cardiothoracic surgery, significant publications, and extramural grant funding. Candidates will have a strong record in teaching and mentoring graduate and/or medical students, postdoctoral fellows, and/or junior faculty members. The candidate should have a strong commitment to collaborating with clinical and/or translational scientists and have the necessary skills for proposal development and producing peer-reviewed publications. Successful candidates will be expected to establish new internal and external collaborative partnerships, participate in mentoring and teaching students and fellows, and participate and service activities.
