The ideal candidate for this position will have extensive experience in the water heating or HVAC industry, primarily with tankless water heaters and/or boilers. The candidate would have a full understanding of water heating concepts and experience presenting those to specific audiences. This person must also understand troubleshooting products and installations of the units. The Academy Trainer directly supports Navien's business operations. Therefore, essential attributes include excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to multitask and remain focused in high-pressure situations. In addition, the candidate must be highly self-motivated and able to work independently, including in critical areas requiring the exercise of discretion and independent judgment, have a positive attitude and be resourceful and enthusiastic about training and continued growth. Responsibilities:
Participates in and conducts technical training programs involving Navien products, installation, troubleshooting and service
Use discretion and independent judgment to evaluate and determines training objectives, assists in writing training programs, modifying training programs that will best support Navien's business operations, including outline, text, handouts, and tests, and designs laboratory exercises where applicable.
Lectures class on safety, installation, programming, maintenance, and repair of Navien products, and equipment directly related to Navien applications, following outline, handouts and texts.
Be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the water heating field and hydronics.
Perform a variety of tasks, during non-training periods which includes but are not limited to field inspections, technical site visits and fielding phone calls from our installing groups, contractors, manufacturer representatives and coworkers.
Oversee and maintain the training academy facility which includes, but is not limited to:
Verify that the training room is set up prior and after training classes as necessary, and assist with those tasks when required
Verify condition of working and non-working equipment before and after each class
Repair/update equipment as necessary
Integrate new products into the curriculum and training room as they are released
Interact and collaborate as needed with the internal company departments to maintain and upgrade the academy
Work with and support the regional sales staff and manufacturers' representatives with regarding customer attendance or coordinating trainings outside the set academy schedule.
Work with the training department coordinators to help schedule and support classes with hand out material, required reporting, or overall class information
Work with academy attendees during and after classes. Including helping organize, attend, and support dinners/meals after class ends.
Document weekly responsibilities through required sales and training reports, expense reports, emails, and phone calls. Submit required documents, reports, or information within the required timeframes set forth by the company.
Travel - this position may involve travel to trade shows or meetings, other academy locations, and occasional field trainings - approximately 20% travel is typical.
Requirements:
The academy trainer must be able to work in multiple roles: as the trainer, the operations coordinator, and the ambassador for Navien and the academy.
Trainer position requires acceptable knowledge and expertise in a related area and 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
Ability to articulate problems and solutions concisely to all levels of customers: laborer, contractor, distributer, engineers and architects.
Completion of degree at a trade school (electrical, plumbing or HVAC) or equivalent in real time preferred.
Ability to change roles quickly, from lecture to individual instruction
Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
Strong presentation/public speaking skills and strong customer service skills.
Willingness and ability to speak with groups as large as 100+
Sales experience and the ability to sell the product is an absolute requirement.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Outlook.
Can work well under general and limited supervision.
Experience and competence in using hand tools and test equipment relevant to the product and water heater/boiler industry.
Experience in advanced hydronics, with an emphasis on new technologies and control strategies. Design experience in hydronic systems is additionally beneficial.
Pluses:
Navien-specific Tankless/Boiler installation and training experience.
Knowledge and understanding of the manufacturer - manufacturer rep - distributor - contractor sales model and process, and each of their roles in that relationship.
