Job Description:
Amherst College invites applications for the Assistant for Chem 100, Molecular Gastronomy position. The Assistant for Chem 100, Molecular Gastronomy is a part-time, casual position with no benefits, starting at $17.00/hr - commensurate with experience. The Assistant for Chem 100, Molecular Gastronomy in consultation with Professor O'Hara, helps with the successful running of the laboratory component of the class, which runs in three sections, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of each week for thirteen weeks starting January 27 and ending at the close of the week of April 27. A final week of May 4 will be devoted to clean up and stowing of CHEM 100 supplies and deep cleaning of the kitchen. Total of 100 hours. Reliable transportation is required to perform the following duties.
In consultation with the instructors, each week, the assistant will order supplies from dining services in preparation for the lab experiment to be done the next week. These orders must be placed with Dining Services by Monday one week in advance of the lab.
In consultation with the instructors, each week, the lab space in Ford Hall needs to be set-up before the Tuesday first lab section. Given that we have the space Monday evening to Thursday evening, this needs to be done Monday evening. Teaching assistants and instructors will also contribute to this set-up.
Six times in the semester, specialty ingredients need to have been purchased or ordered from dining services for the food challenges and be in-house before the Tuesday afternoon lab.
Additional hours will be necessary during the weeks of April 20 and 27, to help support the procurement of foods for the student final project for Chemistry 100, Molecular Gastronomy and Food Science. From Test Tubes to Taste Buds.

Summary of Responsibilities:
Event Support
Procure supplies and groceries for the student recipes.
Assist in the set-up of the event.
Assemble and arrange for efficient distribution of stock and specialty ingredients for each group.
Assist with the planning of supplies for the final projects for each student group.
Collaborate with instructors in the end of semester clean-up of the space.
Qualifications:
Required
High school degree or equivalent.
Valid Driver's License and successful credentialing is required to operate college vehicles.
Excellent verbal and written communication and organization skills.
Ability to work collaboratively.
Commitment to working with a diverse and inclusive community.
Preferred
Food service experience a plus.
