Position Summary

Reporting into the Vice President, Head of Licensing Support team, which is in the patent organization, InterDigital is currently looking for a talented individual to lead its Patent Product Team. This team will participate in SEP portfolio development efforts in collaboration with portfolio managers, the patent prosecution team, and the licensing support team to create high quality SEP portfolios. The team is responsible for delivering SEP licensing claim charts and evidence of use (EoU) for various technology areas and product categories. The team will also provide actionable feedback to other functions within the patents department as part of the SEP portfolio management lifecycle process. The selected candidate will participate in and potentially lead technical discussions for mobile licensing program support. Our Patent Department plays a core role in the organization located in Wilmington DE, New York City, Washington DC, Conshohocken PA, and France (Paris and Rennes). The department provides patent support to our Research sites, in the United States, Canada and Europe, collaborating actively with the Research and Innovation teams to protect high value inventions, reading on standards or products. The department also provides full support to our licensing and litigation teams and is focused on strategic portfolio management in support of corporate objectives.

Responsibilities


  • Create high quality licensing claim charts, technical presentations and evidence of use material for technology areas, such as wireless communications and video services.

  • Collaborate with patent prosecution and infringement analysis teams, including drafting and updating working SEP claim charts that develop into finalized claim charts.

  • Join the Licensing Support team for technical discussions with potential licensees, as needed.

  • Provide licensing feedback to the patent prosecution process such as prior art and non-infringement contentions to enhance patent quality and global patent filing strategies.

  • Support domestic and foreign patent enforcement and defense actions as needed.

  • Collaborate with InterDigital's Research and Innovation team to develop compelling licensing materials and stay current with commercial deployments and industry standards.

  • Work with research team, Licensing and Business Intelligence teams to understand product roadmaps and ensure that patent products are aligned with key markets, technologies and customers.

Qualifications:

The potential candidate will possess the following:


  • 8+ years experience working in a Corporate IP department.

  • BS or higher degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or another closely related technology area relevant to InterDigital's business activities.

  • Registration to practice before the USPTO (J.D. /Patent Agent) or the EPO is a plus.

  • Experience in the field of wireless communications; working knowledge of wireless standards (3GPP, IEEE 802.11, etc.) and/or experience in standards-based prosecution.

  • Previous experience working with large cellular communication companies is preferred.

  • Previous experience in managing projects with multiple teams is preferred.

  • Ability to take initiative and work independently, while frequently collaborating with a broader team.

  • Ability to communicate at all levels within the organization and possession of a global mindset.

  • Occasional domestic and international travel is expected.

Location: US East Coast (PA, DE, DC, NY) preferred, can also consider France (Rennes, Paris).

A reasonable estimate of the current salary range specific to US locations in NY, DE, DC, is $203,000 - $290,000 /annually + discretionary incentive bonus, benefits and may include other forms of compensation components such as long-term incentives. Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience and may fall outside of the range shown.
