Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs

To build on its long history and chart a bright future, RIC seeks a Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs (Provost) who is an innovative, collaborative, and visionary leader. The next Provost will collaborate with a committed faculty to lift academic performance and realize more positive outcomes for an increasingly diverse student body.
Located on a 180-acre campus in the vibrant city of Providence, RIC serves approximately 6,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The Provost serves as Chief Academic Officer of the College and leads the academic affairs enterprise. Providing academic leadership that ensures excellence in the College's curricula, teaching, research, and public outreach, the Provost is responsible for the vitality of RIC's academic life and the intellectual well-being of students, staff, and faculty. At RIC, the Provost also serves as a senior advisor to the President on policies and operations and assumes the chief executive role in the absence of the President. As RIC's senior academic leader, the Provost combines data-informed decision-making with deep knowledge of the best academic and student success practices within a culture committed to continuous improvement, particularly in helping students persist and graduate on time.
In its next Provost, Rhode Island College seeks a leader able to lift the campus to new heights of academic success while embodying a collaborative and supportive approach to working with faculty, staff, and fellow administrators. The ideal candidate will be a scholar and advocate, an experienced executive with exceptional administrative acumen, and a leader who is collegial and decisive. Exemplary academic credentials and expert communication skills are also needed, as well as the cultural competency and the emotional agility to lead initiatives supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion while advancing inclusive excellence.
The Provost will also be expected to have an earned doctorate and extensive higher education leadership experience in increasingly responsible roles. Preferred qualities and qualifications include demonstrated achievement in teaching and service in a higher education environment, prior collective bargaining experience, and knowledge of and familiarity with the missions of Hispanic Serving Institutions and Minority Serving Institutions and the students served by them.
