Overview
Operational Leadership
Communicates regularly with the Manager of AODs, Nursing Division Directors, Nurse Managers and professional and support services leadership for the purpose of mutual information sharing, planning and problem solving.
Submits daily AOD report to hospital administration, summarizing hospital operations for previous 24 hours. Communicates any necessary follow-up needs with oncoming AOD. Utilizes chain of resolution including engaging the Healthcare Administrator on Call (HAOC) when necessary.
Works within Mission Control with the Physician on Duty, Patient Placement Office, Emergency Communications Center, Transfer Center nurses, charge nurses, nursing and non-nursing leadership and referring and accepting physicians to facilitate patient placement in all inpatient care areas and maintain access to the hospital for Oregonians and others in and beyond our
Uses capacity management tools and forecasting reports to plan for and manage daily flow and operations
Minimizes divert protocols while ensuring safe and optimal utilization of healthcare
Activates the Healthcare Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and serves as the initial Incident Commander in the event of a disaster until leadership relief is designated in the EOC. Collaborates with the HAOC and key stakeholders to coordinate an appropriate scalable response to disasters, threats, or other emergencies that could impact healthcare operations.
Collaborates with Facilities Management to ensure timely/safe infrastructure repairs to maintain patient care
Collaborates and communicates with university stakeholders when Modified Operations may be indicated. Collaborates with appropriate missions and departments to implement the Modified Operations
Collaborates with Department of Public Safety to ensure safety to institution, patients, visitors, and
Monitors for situations that may pose a risk to the organizations physical and financial resources and communicates with hospital Risk Management.
Serves as a liaison between media relations, patients and hospital
Initiates and participates in debriefing support as appropriate.
Responds to and supports staff, family, and patients in emergency situations including, Code Green, Code Blue, Code Red, Code Amber, Code Pink, Code Walker, Code Gray, and Code Silver.
Nursing/Clinical Practice
Serves as a trained organ/eye/tissue requestor, coordinates, facilitates, and participates in donation discussions with next of kin, and collaborates with external donation
Collaborates with the Decedent Affairs Coordinator to ensure completion of all required end of life documentation and activities, discussing and consenting for OHSU autopsies, referring appropriate cases to the medical examiner, coordinating post-mortem procedures, communicating with funeral homes, and supporting research initiatives related to the Decedent Affairs
Provides Patient Advocate services in crisis situations in collaboration with Patient Relations, social work and the medical team, and serves as a liaison to other managers regarding these issues.

Facilitates understanding of how the AOD role coordinates and collaborates with other key roles in the organization (e.g. shadowing opportunities, attending committee or team meetings).
Responsibilities
BSN
Valid Oregon RN License
Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers
Five years clinical or management experience
Job Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Competencies):
Knowledge of Regulatory/Agency Requirements
Strong communication skills, teamwork (demonstrated ability to build team and integrate existing teams), and experience in complex organizational environments
Strong knowledge of current union contracts, Hospital and University policies, human resource policies, Code of Conduct, infection control and OHSA regulations
